I read the other day that the few seats remaining for 2011 are reserved for drivers coming with sponsorship.
To me this means that a very talented driver with only small (or no) sponsorship will be overlooked for a lesser driver with a 'large bag of cash'.
Leading on from this I think this is detrimental to F1 and also to the team they drive for. Unfortunately it looks like the main culprits for this are the newer teams as they are struggling financially and these teams could really do with very talented drivers.

To some extent it seems that way, Maldonado over Hulkenburg? Chandhock out, Sakon in?

Also with the lack of testing, young drivers are of course finding it hard to get f1 experience, but additionally experienced f1 drivers are valued more for testing feedback.

Easily resolved though, increase the earnings given to teams for WCC position to an extent it readdresses the balance in favour of good drivers (more WCC points) over marketable ones (more sponsorship $) for the smaller teams.

Then again, there is some fantastic young talent in the grid anyway.

You actually answered your own question  . F1 is not the only series to be effect by this but it's survival of the fittest and money is the name of the game.

I agree with you. Come back to testing cars is needed for more drivers taking experience and demonstrating what they are able to do. It’s also good for circuits and fans that can attend to them and finally is good for developing cars the right way. Banning testing cars is, in my opinion one of the worst decisions for Formula 1 taken by the supremo's gang.
More money trough WCC is also needed, because small teams have no money for developing a good enough car for competing with a bit of dignity. It’s for that reason that they contract drivers with a sponsor under their arms. I also believe that a couple of teams less in the grid would be better than how it is now.
For example, I guess you don’t know that Alguersuary is on the grid now, because Red Bull and Repsol have a long term agreement to introduce Red Bull in Moto GP and Repsol in F1 as sponsors. Repsol and Alguersuary are both Catalans and that, unfortunately, counts much in Spain.
