I believe that Piquet jr could have been a reasonable driver, not a great like his father but reasonable given a more nurturing environment, Renault under Flavio Briatore was not the right place for him, especially given Briatore's conflict of interests being Alonso's manager and team boss, the Brazilian had no chance at all. I think the apology and payout is fair given that Renault should have kept their corporate mouths shut instead of blindly believing Flavio, I have never trusted that slimeball!

That slime ball will be back in F1 soon...

I believe that the Singapore 2008 affaire was well known all around the paddock before it was officially unveiled. Bernie and Max Mosley were targeting Briatore because he had leaded the teams’ revolt against the new rules that FIA wanted to implement.
In my opinion Briatore will come back to F1 by the hand of the teams, maybe trough the FOTA to deal with Bernie in the future.
But that is a mere supposition.

I'm not usually one for conspiracy theories, but i do think there's something weird about this whole thing - or rather, everything! The timing, the people 'involved', and so on. Any theories of mine are really a moot point, but i think the Piquets basically played the Renault team and went for the jugular once Piquet Jr got the sack.

Everyone talked about how dirty Ferrari is but at least Ferrari does it bluntly and only hurting themselves (usually), but with Renault, they do things so secretly, they tell you to do things for them because you are employed and paid by them, then turn around and accuse you of blackmailing (which is a serious offense), slender your family name around the world, and make you the fall guy while they sit and collect all the glory. This is the dirtiest thing I've seen in F1.

IMHO Briatore is the main culprit and not the team as he was running it and sending secret messages and having closed door meetings. When Piquet Jr crashed it did not look too me as being planned it was just typical Piquet Jr style :whip: .

Now seriously, I find totally unfair that Flavio and Fernando don’t receive A N Y T H I N G. They deserve, at least, the same amount of money than Piquet, if not more. Especially the father. Did he actually do anything?

Fernando received a race win mate.

and why does flavio derserve anything?!, good thing your not a judge in a court! he could have endangered piquet, the crowd, marshalls with pieces of carbon fibre flying everywhere, plus i do admit like tex i thought it was a driver error

Wasn't Flavio,Alonsos manager as well at the time, along with team principal??? Connect the dots people!

Yes as it was mentioned previously  :

Why is it Alonso gets away with everything? Is it because he's good at lying? Course he knew about it. Nelsinho I feel sorry for.

I'm also certain he did but it was most likely easier to prove wrongs by Briatore and the team. Nothing different with law enforcement and attorneys in the sense that they will persue the easiest infraction that can be proven and will lead to a conviction and/or fine.
