And even if he really did break his shoulder that just makes him even more of a douchebag. Here in America professional athletes are strictly forbidden to engage in outside sporting events or activities that might lead to injury, during the off season let alone during the active year!! That is put right in their contract. The fact that he rode a mountain bike at all during a race year is crazy!! That should be grounds for loss of pay and possible dismissal from the team!
Secondly that he only tells the world about this in a book he is trying to sell is so slimy and underhanded. Are you kidding me? Mark Webber is a total, utter, slimy, douche!!

Come on, Senna used to go jet skiing all the time, Raikkonen was always doing the odd snow mobile race and Schuey did heaps of karting events. Lets not go the American way and wrap our athletes up in corporate cotton wool, having them unable to sign autographs cause its not printed on one of their sponsors cards like in Jerry Macguire. Mark Webber is a 34 year old man who has earned his right to enjoy life so good on him for doing that. I've met him a enough times to say he's a top bloke who doesn't deserve being called a douche. For me it just goes to show how tough we Aussies are.

In my opinion all F1 drivers should be allowed to race in touring car events or the like, espescially the younger drivers who get limited race experience once they become Formula One drivers. Berger used to do it when he first started and before that it was common practice for drivers to race in other categories. Make them prove they are not just overpaid primadonnas.

yeah we do need to be careful that we dont allow top sports people not to lead a normal life so to speak, and the accident was bad luck imo!

I think as Christian Horner has come out and said, it's not that they're going to force drivers not to do other things during their spare time. But rather that this is Mark's second accident on a mountain bike. They just don't seem to agree with him, lets be honest.

They say lightning doesn't strike twice, but s***, if it does you'd think you'd learn to avoid lightning storms.

Mark Webber and Michael Schumacher have sustained serious injuries while riding mountain bikes and racing motorcycles. Webbers shoulder injury probaly accounts for his slump in performance for last four races. Is the bottom kicking Nico Rosberg gave Schumacher at Mercedes a result of Schumacher's previous neck injury, a reason which he will disclose at a later date. This reminds me of that old adage, "cooked his own goose."

What crazy logic. Say he sustained an injury jogging, is he supposed to not do that any more either?

Well since he is not an american playing sports in America that holds no water.

He did not have to mention it at all and if I remember correctly two others knew about the injury soon after it happened and those are the people who matter most. It was a small hairline fracture that did not stop him from performing his duties.

Aswell calling him a slimy underhanded douche bag is so immature and uncalled for  .

How do MS injuries compare to MW's in the sense that MS was not a current driver when he sustained his injuries?

As I previously stated:
If I was Mark I would focus more on other less prone to serious injury activities but we can't fault the man for enjoying life and one of his passions, life is to short.

He didn't even tell Horner! Webber really doesn't trust redbull it seems.

That's not an logical argument, as the chances of injuring yourself aren't the same.

Okay then, driving a car? The point i am trying to make is that just because he had a cycling accident before, it doesn't mean he is stupid or whatever for going cycling again, if you get me.

Indeed, though its a common misconception I think. "mutual independence" (I think thats it). If you flip a coin 10 times, 9 times its heads, the chances of it being heads the 10th time is still a half.

That's not necessarily the case here though, people could be assuming Mark is just crap at mountain biking, or feel that mountain biking is too dangerous anyway and he shouldn't even have been doing it the first time.

So you think F1 drivers should live in a bubble outside of grandprix weekends? Statistically speaking they have more chance of injuring themselves in an automobile accident on the way to the track than during fitness training on a cycle.
#229621
Oh yea, theres nothin dangerous going down a mountain in a bike!! Breaking bones while doing it just happens to be a common thing!

yeah but it did only happen because his mate fell off right in front of him!

You talking to me?

I was just saying it isn't necessarily bad logic to say he shouldn't be mountain biking.
#229678
As I said, more chance of injuring ones self in an automobile accident than doing some fitness training on a cycle be it on a trail or full on mountain biking.

Still people need to stop making judgement, for all you know he was riding in his front yard when the friend came off...
