I think this guy will do very well. A regular points finisher. He's experienced, and we all saw how exceptional he was testing, which indicates to me that he'd also be good qualifying.

I think he'll be better than Hulkenberg, and I base that on nothing other than his experience and the fact he looks like Valentino Rossi. :wavey:

Frank Williams and I think Pastor is a much better package than Hulkenburg.

It's not like Hulkenburg was going to win any races and put Williams third in the WCC anyway, getting the best of the best drivers is not really important at the stage where Williams F1 team is at now. It's all about rebuilding and refreshing, and nothing does that better than the right money and the right people.

but what if maldonado turns out to be rubbish?, your comments may come back to haunt you :hehe: !

He will be fine.

I found this on williams website:

I don't like the tone of the article, but some parts are fair enough.

“We gave him a lot to test, but at the same time it was a driver evaluation and we were interested in how he responded to what he was told to do,” said McCullogh. "He comes across as quite experienced and he was able to get up to speed pretty quickly. He wasn’t taking risks, just getting quicker and quicker.

“He listened to what we told him to do and his driving style will suit F1 pretty well. It’s hard to think of any negatives.”

The implication of this is clear – Williams was not only looking for a rent-a-racer. It was looking for a funded driver who was worthy of an F1 seat and used the test to ensure that Maldonado is capable of delivering a good level of performance in his rookie year.

My bet is that he will score more points than Nico and be on average closer to Barichello in qualifying.

Maldonado is also fresh off the back of over 2,000 miles of testing in 2009-spec Formula One cars, after testing for both Williams and HRT in Young Driver’s test and the Pirelli tyre testing at Abu Dhabi last month. He turned heads at these tests, particularly in the HRT car, in which he set times seconds ahead of that team’s driver’s qualification times at the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

I know he was testing the new tires for Pirelli but he was "seconds" faster then the HRT drivers! I would like to see his numbers

I knew Sir Williams had a more then 1 reason for signing him....he had 15,000,001 reasons

I believe he was around 1.5s faster during the young driver's test - this was carried out on Bridgestones. However, the track was totally rubbered in and in theory this accounts for the whole, or at least most of the gap.
