Playing the what if game, if Lewis' tyre had lasted 1 more lap in Spain, he'd be double WDC now.

Not a bad drive for a guy in the 2nd best car for the 1st half of 2010, and 3rd best for 2nd half of 2010.

That's the whole point, the best driver of 2010 is subjective at best, Racechick will say that Lewis Hamilton is the best 0f 2010, I say that Nico Rosberg is the best of 2010 and F1er says Sebastian Vettel is the best of 2010. No-one is wrong as such, it's an opinion, plain and simple, there's no right or wrong!

Spot on!! Its subjective, its opinion and theres no point taking a dig at people who have different opinions to you.

A little more on Mark Hughes, I happen to agree with much, not all, of what he says, but often he is still giving his opinion and entitled to do so. You dont have to agree, but before you write him off as a guy who 'knows, nothing, is biased, is just a media hack' etc etc heres a little more about him. His articles are always very beautifuly written, very knowledgeable and technically informative

A lot of people have chosen Nico Rosberg as one of their top drivers. Here's what Hughes had to say about him:-

In a Mercedes that was essentially half a second off the pace he did all that could reasonably be asked. He had an unerring consistency and a way of minimising the car's weaknesses that left the returning Schumacher reeling and therte were virtually no errors. He hates understeer just as much as Michael, but worked out rather better how to drive on these tyres, on this car. But not at any point did he flatter the car in the way of Kubica at Renault. He is a very good F1 driver indeed-adaptable, fast, intelligent- but he has yet to stake any obvious claim to greatness.


Once again I find myself in agreement with him. His comments on Webber are very nteresting and he sites something Id overlooked in mitigation of his pequali performances against Vettel. I'll type that one out next.

What matters is if their opinions are worth anything. Mark Hughes is definitely biased.

If you took an American journo he would have a clearer opinion based on facts and evidence than Mark Hughes who writes mainly for the English public.

I doubt an American journalist would have the F1 facts, evidence and knowledge needed to write detailed articles about F1 every week. American series yes.

I disagree with Mark, Lewis shouldn't be #1 because he has made a number of mistakes that were of his own making, and (I know RC won't agree) childish outbursts over the radio when things didn't go his way. Same goes for Fernando, too many mistakes and losing his head moments. I believe driver of the season has to go to either Robert Kubica or Nico Rosberg, both had under-performing cars and managed a number of podium finishes while comprehensively outperforming their team mates.

myownalias just when did Lewis make a ''lot''of mistakes, the only one that counts imo is monza, in singapore he was going for it like he always does, and suzuka didnt cost him because he would have been 3rd if not for the car!, plus what about vettel, remember hungary?, hands up and down the pit lane?, but i do agree that kubica and rosberg were some of the best drivers of 2010, anyway dont worry lewis your always my number 1!

And why would you doubt that? Its not like their isnt a Formula One following in the US, i mean we have plenty of American F1 fans on this forum to prove it! So its not like there is a lack of funding for them to travel to every race.

And thats pretty much all you need. To be at every race, inside the paddock and to be known. Why wouldnt an American Journo have access to that when living in Asia, we have plenty of Journos who do that.

The reason I doubt it is the depth of Knowledge and understanding one gets from being immersed in something for many many years, is greater than that of someone who just hops on a plane to watch a race.

Further to this, myownalias, you say they both comprehensively beat their teammates!

May I remind you, the qualifying stat for:

Lewis-Jenson : 13-5
Nico-Schumi: 13-5

Is equal.

Lewis had 'car' retirements in:
- Hungary - Engine - (while 3rd?)
- Spain - Suspension failure (1 lap away from finishing 2nd)
- Japan - 4th, then gifted 5th to Jenson due to gearbox

Jenson had 'car' retirements in:
- Monaco (while in 5th)

Points difference at the end: 26...discounting the misfortunes of both drivers!
