Why do Lewis Hamilton fans (with some exceptions) feel the need to big up Lewis Hamilton while putting down Jenson Button? The simple fact is that each driver has their own strengths and weaknesses and have the capability to beat each other on any given day. Jenson could have been ahead in points, Monaco and Spa being the two examples of retirements that were not of his making. Over the course of the season they were fairly evenly matched and given different circumstances, points tally could be different!
Jenson's big let down this year was his poor quali performances, if he had qualified better, who knows what would have happened in the race!
I do not agree with this. Nothing is balanced. The weaknesses between each Driver DO NOT Balance out and never will. Some drivers have less weaknesses and more strengths at the same time. This Year we saw PERFORMANCE , SETUP and INSECURITY weakness from Button. From Hamilton all we saw was a "weakness" of Inexperience.
It's almost dishonest to say they were evenly matched. Evenly matched means equal. Hamilton dominated in qualifying and the races. That in no way can be classified as equal driver performance. The match was not way even. An even match is like Alonso Vs Hamilton. You never knew who was going to beat the other on a given day. On the contrary it wasn't like that for the Mclaren Boys; It was almost universally expected that Hamilton would beat Jenson over all the races.. It almost came true too, with Hamilton only loosing out 2 wet "Lottery" races to his team mate when their chances were even.
That is what I hate about History... It's so easy for somebody to twist , crop it and repaint it. History is so easy to Photoshop...

Heh, well it is the off season, we should try.
So... let me see.... from what i remember:
Jenson got dominated in Q.
Lewis made much more (ie 'some', as opposed to... eh... hmmm... none?) driving mistakes. Don't remember Jenson hitting or even clipping anyone; dont remember jenson ever going wide (except that spin at Korea... and he didn't really go wide there, did he? hehe)
They were pretty much evenly paced during the races.
Experience counted for very little as the Champion proved
The tire wear thing ALMOST made a difference, because Jenson was considerably better to his tires, but the tires lasted so long anyways... so it made no real difference, except in a few races for a few laps. Maybe Jenson had a bit more flexibility in his strategies... and this is why he was able to ussually finish well positioned despite getting handicapped for Q.
I can immediately think of Monza, Korea and Brazil where Lewis made clear mistakes.

Jeez! cant think that quick. Monza Yes-thats the one i thought, though I still think he was harshly punished for i minor knock-most would have got away with that. What were his mistakes in Korea and Brasil? Remind me.

He had Alonso behind him and let him through, Korea he was ahead after Alonso's slow pitstop, and shortly after the safety car release ran wind allowing Alonso clean through. In Brazil, just after the start I think,
The nitpicking here is pathetic. Making it easy for the driver behind to overtake is a MISTAKE??? I'm sure ALonso, Jenson, Webber, have all been overtaken more than 3 times the whole year??? Were those all mistakes!?
Lewis beat Alonso in his rookie year. For those who turn pale reading this and can't accept it, fine, Lewis matched Alonso in his rookie year.
Lewis beat the reigning World Champion in 2010 straight up, head to head Qual & Race. I don't care if Lewis crashed in every race and STILL beat Jenson, in the end - HE BEAT JENSON.
Lewis has carried the teams WDC hopes to the last race in 3/4 seasons he's been in F1.
Grow up, and just accept Lewis was the better driver this year. 1-0 to Lewis, Jenson has another shot next year. I think it will definitely be closer.
