With the reintroduction of KERS in 2011, it begs the question of who is in best position to benefit. In 2009, basically only McLaren and Ferrari were able to get it working reliably. I think Ferrari used it most.

Big difference between 09 and 11 though is that the teams will have to carry the extra weight of the KERS whether they use it or not. In 09, teams often chose to run without it and have the benefit a lighter car. In 11, they are adding 20Kgs to the cars minimum weight for the KERS.

Jenson Button is reported in this article to think McLaren is in best position to benefit because of their 09 experience.

After a shaking start in terms of reliability, Ferrari were able to get their 09 version of KERS working reliably - albeit in the not so good F60. However, Ferrari have spent all of 2010 working on KERS for the experimental 599 HY-KERS car, so they will have been building knowledge and experience with KERS constantly throughout this year.

And I'd expect Williams to do well with theirs.

I hear Ferrari's KERS is so efficient that they're able to implement an electrolysis attachment for Fernando's car.

The systems themselves arent the important part when referring to who has the best system. Its the weight and cooling that affects the F1 cars. Aero and weight balance.

But the lighter the system the better you will be. Which is why Williams fly wheel system will probably be even better than McLaren Mercedes as theres no heavy battery being stored on the car.

Spanky i saw you said Ferrari used it most, thats incorrect. McLaren raced it at every track bar one. Ferrari didnt use it more than once.

I hope Red Bull does not run it with there reliabilty at stake.

Ferrari will probaly have a better system then McClaren but they have the most winning experience with KERS

Good point, it is just a different design then a "conventional" KERS system

From what i read Williams' use the flywheel (40,000 RPMS) instead of battery power (sounds like it saves a little weight, less batteries)

It's pretty obvious that Williams will be starting at the back of the field as they have announced here their decision to abandon their "flywheel/no-battery" concept and will develop a battery system.

Actually, in 2009 Ferrari did use KERS the most mate. Ferrari took KERS off for only one race in 09, China. McLaren ran without KERS in Britain and Germany.

In November 2008 it was announced that Freescale Semiconductor would collaborate with McLaren Electronic Systems to further develop its KERS for McLaren's Formula One car from 2010 onwards. Both parties believed this collaboration would improve McLaren's KERS system and help the system filter down to road car technology.

And i always thought Ferrari had a few races where they didnt run KERS, not just the one.

Wiki is the easiest place to look up which teams used KERS at which circuits in '09.

Not sure of your source, but it seems to be from 2008 - before they actually ran. The KERS McLaren really use did indeed come from Merc HPE, as you can see from this article. Norbert was actually touting it for sale to the other Merc teams as late as into the '09 season. They got input from other companies including Zyrtek but I hadn't heard of Freescale before. They might have consulted to Merc HPE? In any case, it's Merc's but I'm sure McLaren will stay their customer for the KERS.

Williams have dumped the fly wheel, they're using battery operate KERS like all the others. Why? Dont know. This is despite them just winning an award with it.

i think that mercedes will have the best kers next season as it was class of the field in 2009, it was a great tool for mclaren, its just a shame that for half of that season they didnt have a good car, because if they had done with that kers too......

According to the article Spanky provided Head said tis because of the allowed weight difference of the cars now and the fact you can mould the batteries any way you like which will help diminish its weight impact.
