- 06 Dec 10, 07:43#229209I am a big GT fan and have played all the series but GT5 is a huge epic failure. Polyphony took 6 years to develope GT5 and it was a
disapointment to see GT5 haven't evolved in 6 years, GT5's strength is that its a racing simulation (even said that on the cover), its strength is also its biggest epic weakness. GT5 is supposed to "simulate"(once again its on the cover) real world racing and as a weekend racer myself, I don't race with some euro trash music in the background, its annoying that you can't turn it off. The first thing they teach you in racing school is that the car with the inside line has the right of way or the car with the nose in front has the right of way, problem is this simulation game doesn't understand that. Its annoying when you are doing the "license test", when YOU bump into a car, you are disqualified, now that's understandable since you don't have the right of way, BUT when you have the right of way and you are on the inside lane about 1/2 car in front of the car behind, the AI is so stupid that it keeps its racing line and turn right into you, thus disqualifying you, this is really annoying and it happens over and over. The licensing tests is supposed to teach you about racing, but what am I supposed to learn by driving a VW Bus, Toyota Yaris, Prius, etc.. its nothing but a waste of time for the player and a waste of research and development for Polyphony. Now GT5 has over 1000 cars, I am not asking for 1000 cars because I don't dream about owning a Honda Beat, Toyota Celica, or countless cars that took up so much disk space, just give up about 200-300 cars that we dream about owning. Because Polyphony spent so much time on research and development on things that we don't want (B Spec) and taken up so much disk space, it totally skip out on the customization. You can't paint a car a certain color you want unless you have a car with that color or buy a car with that color, but then it can only be used once. The best part about playing games like Forza or Need For Speed is buying your dream car and customizing it to your taste, unfortuntely with GT5, you can't customize 80% of its cars and when you can, they all have the same bodykit and 2 dozen rims. I spent my first $30K on a 07 Mustang (why they don't have a 2010/2011 model?) and I was excited to customize the Mustang, nope, only thing you can do is buy some new wheels and a big spoiler, same thing with the Veryon I bought. The best way to sum up GT5 is driving my Lamborgini Gallardo, doing about 180 mph and I am turning on the wiper blades because it started to rain, I also turn on the high beams, I am thinking what a great job Polyphony has done to details then all of a sudden I crash head first into a wall at about 160mph, all that happend was I got a few scratches on the front bumper, they made it so real then so fake. The up sides is that I love the physics, the handling is almost identical to some of the cars I've raced, the graphics is top notch, the fun factor is average. All I can think is it took 6 years and countless delays for this?
