Sebastian Vettel has admitted he has dreamt of driving for Mercedes or Ferrari, but stressed his focus for 2011 is to defend his Formula One world championship with Red Bull.

Vettel won the final two races of the season to snatch the title from the grasp of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso. The German has spoken to his fellow countryman and seven-time champion Michael Schumacher and the subject of driving for Mercedes or Ferrari has been discussed. It is something that holds appeal to the 23-year-old, but he is not looking to jump ship from Red Bull any time soon.

"Obviously he [Schumacher] told me what kind of special moments he experienced driving for Ferrari or Mercedes," Vettel wrote in his column in Bild. "Both brands are the past, present and certainly the future of Formula One.

"Every driver dreams of Ferrari and Mercedes. If one ever ends up driving for them depends on a number of things. Everything must fit together. The myth alone is not enough.

"But this is still a long way away. My next aim is to defend the title with Red Bull."

He meant McLaren.

Nah, he meant Mercedes (Silberpfeile and such) - why in the world would he talk about McLaren with MS???

Mercedes hadn't been in F1 since the horrific accident... and how many "special" moments could Schumacher possibly have experienced driving for Mercedes THIS year?

This has PR written all over it. However I think Vettel recognizes Mercedes as one of the few teams that could possible earn him the 20 or 30 million Euro a year salary he's knows is around the corner.

Well, e.g., when Liuzzi was dry-humping him in Abu Dhabi :hehe:

Sure, PR, but hey, whatever floats somebody's boat :drink:

He can't say he likes 1 team... said team will feel they got him done-dealt. As long as he has at least 2 teams to bargain with... he owns the playing field.

It should be very interesting to see where Vettel ends up, because obviously Vettel and Weber don't want to stay at Red Bull forever. Straight after the win, I remember reading that Red Bull were interested in signing him on 3 year or a five year contract. Weber said that if that's the case it would cost Red Bull a great deal.

I'm hoping that Vettel can successfully defend his championship next year, and then we'll see who has the money to pay for him. I really do not think Vettel and Alonso at Ferrari would work - Vettel and Hamilton at McLaren would be a dream pairing for myself, or Vettel and Schumacher together at Mercedez in 2012? Or Vettel and Rosberg?

At least Vettel appears to have the sense to know that Red Bull will probably fall back again when Newey leaves and is creating 'options' (kind of a loose term given the other drivers about) for himself.

Would Alonso and any fast driver work? Yes vettel and hamilton would be pretty spectacular to watch. Schumacher would be easily beaten and much as I like Rosberg, so I think would he.

He's talking about Mercedes, not McLaren. I wonder why? McLaren have a massive history, and Merc has barely skimmed the surface of 'history' in their involvement in F1 so far.

Vettel's jibe back to Lewis' "I have no interest for Redbull because they don't have the history of McLaren" probably? Nahh.. :hehe:

Yes, they've had great achievements in the past but in terms of overall involvement/pedigree in F1 I still don't think they can compare to McLaren.

You might want to ignore me on this one...I'm a Mercedes road car hater. But I do support the F1 team.
