Toyota aborts HRT collaboration

By Jonathan Noble Monday, November 15th 2010, 17:40 GMT

HRT's plans to link up in a technical partnership with Toyota have been aborted after the Japanese manufacturer announced it had terminated its deal with the new team.

It is understood that HRT was looking at a deal that would see it use the Toyota's team's planned 2010 car as the basis for next year's challenger - as well as having use of certain facilities at the Cologne factory.

However, in a statement issued on Monday, Toyota Motorsport announced that the plans had been killed off because payments had not been made.

"Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) confirms that all cooperation with Hispania Racing F1 Team (HRT) has been terminated and will not resume," said the statement.

"TMG retains all intellectual property rights to its current F1 car and is completely free to pursue other projects and support new customers for its high-performance engineering services.

"TMG regrets that HRT has not met its contractual payment obligations and will pursue all available options to reach a satisfactory conclusion to this matter."

Ouchie.

Hm, wonder where this puts them for next season. My feeling is that it will not be good... Shame really because I was looking forward to seeing what the un-raced Toyota would be capable of in their hands.

I feel a kinship with HRT as I've also at times wanted to buy things that my budget did not allow me to buy.

Yeah, Hormone Replacement Therapy can be costly...

I'm putting together a consortium.

Cheaper than sequins.

Apparently at a time where most of the big teams and the teams who stopped developing for 2010 and started 2011 are actually starting to build the 2011 monocoques HRT have not even designed a 2011 car.

They could race the 2010 tub, with a new diffuser new susspension, rear wing etc but its going to be so far of the pace.

The next logical option is to consider a collaboration with Epsilon Euskadi, I guess. They're both based in Spain, Epsilon Euskadi have some impressive-looking facilities and experience in motorsport. If not, I can see HRT not even making the grid next season, or simply bolting the Pirelli tyres on, clogging up their F-duct with some tissue paper (if they have one) and getting on and being even further back.

HRT has no future in F1. I'd rather see them drop and give a spot to other team.

What other team?

I don't really care, anything would be better. There was a lot of competition last year for the three new spots, did all those teams lose interest? Lola, Prodrive, Epsilon Euskadi, ART?

Are you expecting any other new team to do any better than the ones we already have?

Yep. (Not if they were signed right now, of course, if they were established to join like what we had last year... actually, Lotus the best new team was the last to join, so draw your conclusions from the phenomenal pick criteria :hehe: ) They all have (or seem to have) more experience and bigger budgets. I can't see it getting any worse than HRT, really. The only "disaster" of this kind I remember is Super Aguri (I wasn't around in the Forti days), but they at least had the backup from Honda, and actually did something in their second year. But how can a team which hasn't got any kind of support and doesn't even have a design for the 2011 car do any good?

Wow me thinks you are expecting way too much of any new team but hey if thats your opinion then sobeit although it is not reality.
