Ok for me Lewis has been far superior this season.Although if Jenson takes Alonso out in the last race I will give the award to him

A lot of people seem to praise his raceboy attitude, personally I prefer the calmer measured approach that takes into account the big picture, of course that driver still needs a ruthless streak. Of course all drivers make mistakes, and loose it, just think in Lewis's case its more of a ingrained personality characteristic.

In Lewis's defense I believe he will eventually acquire those said crafts but a 'polishing' is still in order. Will he acquire them I don't know and only the future will tell but until then I agree with vaptin.

Polishing in what way? At which points in the season did he look unpolished?

Korea? Brazil? Singapore? Monza?

It's all in the car. Driving at the borders of constraint is not a sign of dullness of driver's skill. I don't know why people would think that. Yes, mistakes are more costly in that mode of driving but If the car was more forgiving the cost of those mistakes can be easily depreciated. For instance the RedBull and the Ferrari: how many times this season has any Ferrari or redBull driver's brakes(or more correctly tyres) maxed out before braking into a corner? Not once... And here we have Hamilton who cannot even go back to his old late braking driving style, trying to outbrake other cars, but the tyres just won't hold up (Korea, Brazil, Malaysia, China). It's obvious that Hamilton is driving the car to its limits taking it places it doesn't belong so It's not that he is making mistakes while doing that, it's simply that the cars braking limits are lower and the tyre warming inconsistent so the Limits change. Notice that Hamilton admitted fault in Monza, but not in Spa, Korea or Brazil? Remember how Jenson was CRAP in Brazil qualy, but on pace in the race?

Measured driving is all all down to the difficulty of the car IMO.

Seems like you want to dismiss the fact that Hamilton knows when he should go slow and when he needs turn it up notch. He is a professional and a world champion. This is the same person that has beat a 2XWDC in his rookie year, he's no idiot like the media makes him out to be. He is quite intelligent and highly tactical. Watch Korea and Brazil again...

I wouldn't say he can 'learn' from Button....I actually strongly feel Lewis made that big hash because his teammate was leading. Let's bet if Jenson was behind, Lewis probably wouldn't have a brain-fuse.

Its this aggressive/competitive nature which is the reason I support him. If he drives exactly like he's driven this year, plus the mistakes he's made this year (not many to choose from) in 2011, I'll be chuffed. He's been fantastic to watch this season, Australia, Malaysia, Canada coming to mind. I watch F1 for the racing, and Lewis has been dealt bad hands with weather/etc and he's had to fight his way to the front - best part of the season for me.

Please. I can't stand Alonso, but maybe Lewis can learn something from HIM. Alonso is slow when he needs/can afford to be slow, but gets the job done.

he could learn from any driver, sometimes he does push too hard, he isnt perfect.

Grr, though I guess it was the wrong thread to make a well reasoned post in.

The ram, you mean in Korea and Brazil where Lewis was moaning about his tyres? I think Ted Krativ's race report indicated Lewis used his tyres up too fast in Brazil, and look at the end of the Korean gp where Alonso just pulled away from him having saved his tyres.

When I say Lewis can learn from Jenson, let me put it this way, lets say Lewis has 9/10 for "aggressive driving", 5/10 for "smooth driving", whereas Jenson has 4/10 for aggressive driving, but 9/10 for smooth driving. Lewis is the overall better driver, but there are some elements where Jenson has the better of him, seeing as their team mates Lewis has a good chance to learn from him.

I know I've over simplified it, but I just want you to grasp this concept so I can sleep at night. I'm kinda asking you to accept that Lewis isn't better then Jenson at everything, nor is he the perfect driver, is that really too much to ask?

No, he's not better than Jens at everything.......but Jens has had tyre problems too. Tyres going off the lap after they've been fitted isnt just about not taking care of them. I think to get that mclaren working its not been kind on tyres. Seems its working now, just a tad too late

also lewis was denied a second place in melbourne in my opinion because of the extra pit stop, but overall lewis has done well, despite not having the fastest car bar a couple of mistakes ( italy and singapore), but jenson has done well too, (australia, china, montreal, turkey and monza being his best) plus the drives from them both at silverstone!, long live the partnership and hopefully a better 2011!

He's made mistakes in Brazil and Korea as well, where he let Alonso through, though I agree, he's not made many mistakes this season at all. But coincidence they're mainly towards the end of the season? I think not. . .
