Ok, my first thread in here so please be gentle :)

According to autosport's John Noble: http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/88166 drivers are inquiring Safety Car rules should be changed to allowed lapped drivers to lap theirselves back.

As we see Brazilian GP was a mess after the SC left because the row was filled with lapped drivers and there was much confusion.

I remember when watching the race that it was a complete disgrace as well as dangerous for those fighting for the lead, although I see the driver leading would not see this as something too good because that would mean his inmediate rivals would be after him right away no matter which gap had he built earlier.

So... your thoughts? Change them?, leave them as they are? Mount railguns on leading cars?

Are you refering to the NASCAR rule? Lapped drivers/blue flags yada yada yada  these guys are supposedly the best drivers in the WORLD and when we all reflect on the 'golden era' of F1 there were no 'unlapping or blue flag' rules, grow some stones FIA :irked::whip: .

As already pointed out, the leader of the race is perfectly happy to have 5 or 6 lapped car between him and 2nd place. The persons behind the leader on the same lap, not so happy. The rule is the same for everyone, so it will benefit some and hurt others based on what happens and I'm ok with that.

It would certainly bring more competition and would greatly help a fast car that maybe had an unexpected pit stop due to a flat. So we'd get some surprise race results. But on the other hand, if you're lapped because you're slow why should you benefit. The payoff here is not so much for the lapped drivers, but for the drivers on the lead lap caught a handful of cars back from the leader which then has a big advantage running in clean air for quite some.

Then again, normally those who are lapped are significantly slower than those who haven't been, so they won't get much benefit from unlapping themselves as those who weren't lapped would just pull away again. The problem that I can see is if a driver has to take a pitsop after the safety car, and then has to overtake those cars who unlaped themselves whereas if that hadn't have happened, that driver would get blue flags.

I think he is rather refering to the fact that the top drivers are seperated by lapped drivers stopping them from racing each other on a restart. Yes they are the best drivers and should be able to overtake without aid , but by the time they've overtaken 6 cars their competitor is down the road and away. (I think the blueflag is a different issue and i agree the drivers should overtake without this)

would of been more exciting if the lapped cars were out of the way

would of?

He's dyslexic. You asked us to be gentle, please reciprocate...

But the safety car can be horribly unfair on a leader who has built up a substantial lead. Particularly if the trailing cars take the opportunity to change tyres. They have now gained an advantage on the leader in both time on the road and performance. If the lapped cars must move over and let them past, or the lapped cars are allowed to pass the safety car and pull up to the tail of the peloton (as they used to), then there will be a double (triple?) advantage. It injects some excitement into what was probably a boring race but it is fair?

I have said it before and I will say it again. It is the SAFETY car, not the bloody make it more exciting car. Having the less capable drivers whizzing around as fast as they can to catch the back of the pack makes no sense. I actually think they should change it so that the safety car comes out right away when there is an issue to control the pack and allow the track workers to safely deal with whatever issue they need to address.

If they want to shuffle things around, it makes more sense that behind the safety car, the lapped drivers allow the leaders to the front (as if they were getting the blue flags while behind the SC). That way they don't get in the way and the purpose of the safety car remains.

Edit: and Kaizen, maybe you should lay off the Grammar/spelling BS since you made a mistake in your post as well.
