I think that if there's anyone who can go the extra mile to win the championship, it's Alonso. But it's going to depend on the relative speeds of the cars.

What I'd like to see is the top teams being even, and it coming down to the drivers themselves.

Five races ago no one would have imagined alonso where he is now. no matter the outcome, the boy has earned a lot of respect. It cant be all luck. Redbulls are so far ahead from everyone that it is hard to believe he depends on himself to win the championship. Bravo.

Vettel needs to win 1st and Alonso to come in 5th SV: 256 FA: 256 They are both equal in wins and podioms

Webber needs to win 1st and Alonso to come in 3rd MW: 263 FA: 261

Hamilton needs to place 1st and everybody else on the grid DNF

All this would not matter if you subtracted 7 points from Alonso, who ever wins Abu Dhabi wins the WDC

Alonso propably wished he had a teamate like webber or vettel have. People talk about the 7 points, but no one talks about the points that massa is NOT talking away from ferraris rivals. How can one pitot be so in for the win and the other not even relevant. Does that happen in any other team?

If you give Massa 7 points he only has 150 wich is still 90 points (roughly) behind the leader

You could also say that his poor performances is of Ferrari's own making stealing the Germany victory away from him, demoralising him so much that he isn't mentally upto it!

Or maybe he simply can't be bothered to help Alonso after what happened in Germany?!?!

Not being mentally up to it, is a weakness. Just as many others. You could say Alonso was almost mentally out of it around Silverstone........

... and hurt his own image?!! impossible.
There is no way Massa is not trying hard to get good results. No matter for which team he drives for next yr or the next.... these results he's been having are hurting him much more than they are hurting Alonso (if he were trying to do so).

Yeah and youd think teams would help their drivers out and not make them mentally even weaker half way during a season? its beneficial for their team in the long run. Having a confident Massa probably would have taken more than the 7 points he gave to Alonso off of the others during the duration of the season.

Well.... yes. But deciding over Massa's confidence would have been a gamble, and i guess Ferrari didnt want to gamble. Looking at the championship fight.... they were right not to.

its very different from the scenario in Red Bull. Both Mark and Vettel have been consitently on even form. Have they ever been (this yr) more than a row apart? from day 1 they've been equally strong. Massa and Fernando...... light yrs apart.

I think Felipe has demonstrated he is very motivated and fighting hard to regain form. Look at his 3rd in Korea and really, even though he had wretched luck again with the wheel nut problem, you can't argue with how hard he was trying and fighting for places. Banging cars a la AS.

I'm hoping he can have a a clean race in AD as a platform to launch for next year.

The point of having to drivers is to be stronger, not weaker. Any point taken from the rivals are very valuable at the end of the tournement. You just have to look at the top drivers/cars. Redbull and Mclaren drivers are right next to each other. Same car, similar performance. Massa is totally out of the picture.

Can anybody imagine massa helping out by getting the pole or being a factor agaist redbull..? He is not even in the equation, sad.

Red Bull need to be fast and they will be so. Ferrari needs to be faster, it would be nice to have Massa win. Its his chance to prove everyone wrong.

I STRONGLY doubt it. And I'm sure Ferrari doubts it as well.

His issues rest somewhere else. They havent been able to figure it out, and have been somewhat unlucky, but to think Massa is out of the picture because he's demoralised is an 'insult' to his character and hard work.
