I heard on One HD (Aussie F1 coverage) that the Lotus Group, who build the Lotus cars, are going to join up with the Renault F1 team and become the Lotus Renault team. Which would mean that the current Lotus team, who are also going to have Renault's next year are going to have to change their name. Does anyone have anymore info on this. Its probably oldish news by now as I've haven't been looking at the news articles lately but just wondering if it was just a rumour or truth.

I saw an interview with one of the Renault engineers and he didn't call Tony Fernandes team Lotus Renault (for next year) but called the Air Asia Pty Ltd Renault. Sounds like theres some truth in it happening. Should keep Murray Walker happy as he doesn't consider the current Lotus team as the real Lotus team.

According to Eric Bouiller today on Speed TV there's nothing to those rumors. He simply stated the facts for 2011 (but tellingly not beyond) which are Renault will provide engines to Lotus and Red Bull and still run their own F1 team as well. They would like to provide Renault engines to as many teams as possible...

There is so much uncertainty about the future branding of Lotus racing isn't there.

I don't doubt they will be on the grid next year, but the team name, structure and technical alliances are still very unanswered questions.

Exciting stuff. How will Jarno and Heikki go back at the sharp end of the field again?....for me that's a big question. They have languished in the arse-end of this year's championship usually 10-12% off the leaders times. Not exactly the kind of conditions to sharpen up your race-craft.

Let there be 3 Lotus teams on the grid!

I heard that Renualt wanted to keep making engines but did not want a team. Sounds silly to me!

With all this confusion and controversy they are causing, Lotus is certainly a Formula One team

How exactly can Lotus Cars [Malaysia] join the F1 grid without being accepted by the FIA? that negates the OP quotes completely regardless of what the team will be called!

By buying Renault out (apart from the engines)

I seem to remember Renault considering buying back their team not so long ago; plus the group that currently owns Renault haven't indicated they want to sell to anyone else!
