Any theories on exactly how this works? It's a very strange layout. Here's a pic:

Compare to a 'conventional' duct:

Why is that lower outlet there, for example? :scratchchin:

No idea!!

Perhaps the driver controls the lower outlet which when blocked the air pressure under the rear wing changes and affects the top funnel?

Spending all that money on R&D for something that will become obsolete in two races time, especially for a team like Toro Rosso who are not fighting for a championship win!

Very odd indeed.

Toro rosso were still weighing up the decision after Spa when most teams already had a system working and like someone else said they were not pleased with the performance.

The cost cutting was perhaps a good idea but once again the teams have found a way around it  .

The part that seems to be going under the wing is to direct airflow under the wing, the air follows the shape of the underside of the wing and thus creates downforce.

I think the top "tube" creates a high pressure on top of the wing that forces the wing down.

The bottom "tube" creates low pressure duckling the wing down

The bottom looks to be the only controlable part by the driver

BTW, The STR chasis had some of the highest speeds this year (MPH). Correct me if i wrong

It looks like the extra duct pushes more air under the wing, but is the driver control the same as the Red Bull system? The added pressure would really just equalize though
