I was just reading the headline that Frank Williams has been "hinting" that Nico Hulkenberg could be favoured to stay at Williams.... I don't know about anyone else but I found this really strange. I mean, he hasn't exactly set the world on fire this year, he doesn't bring any major financial backing to the team, and i my opinion....just doesn't have that "x-factor" that you can seem to sense in some of the other stars-to-be (he is no Nico Rosberg or Seb Vettel).

So then I started pondering what would be the benefit for Frank to keep a Willie Weber managed protege and a driver who the German public rates as "possibly the next Schumi".....quite un-Frank like I thought !

....so I'm just going to spin it out there.....could one of the most shrewd and successful teams be working in the background with that rumour that Porsche wants back into the main-game? A porsche-williams marriage is quite logical.

I just wonder lads (and ladies)

Sir Frank is quite the shrewd, astute and secretive businessman, sometimes illogical in his actions imho, but after 30+yr's of watching him it does not surprise me. If your statement is correct maybe he see's something in Hulkenberg that others do not?

He's not favoured. They are just trying to find him a drive for next year and or get some sponsors for him so they don't let his up to now stunning racing career fall flat on it's bottom by dropping him.

I personally still see potenial in Hulkenburg. I've watched him come up through the ranks, and you don't just win every single championship you enter without having some talent. (which he's done) One thing I have noticed is that he is a slower starter. Certainly in Gp2 last year it took him a few races to get up to speed. I'd say wait till next year to make any final judgements.

Based on potenial alone, he's certainly shown flashes of it this year. He managed to qualify a brilliant 5th in Malaysia during the wet quali. Certainly last weekend too, in Korea, he was in 5th right up behind Schuy before, i'm not sure what happened. *twas a bit tired and half asleep watching that race* I was really impressed with his drive in Monza too. He finished 3 places above Rubens. Not forgetting just how good Rubens is around monza too. Just saying, give him a chance yet.

My opinion. Which I think is the truth behind Franks and Patrick's recent compliments towards their driver who they clearly won't resign due to budgetary reasons.

I'd say Williams want to hold on to Hulkenberg badly. He has shown great potential and speed this year. But without the financial backing from RBS next year Williams need to find new sponsors and if one driver is lacking in financial backing (Hulkenberg) then it's a no brainer that the team will assist in anyway it can in securing sponsors for Hulkenberg.

I'd also believe Hulkenberg is currently in talks with several major sponsors for next season and the recent comments from his boses is assisting in securing these sponsors.

I thought it was fine. Made me elaborate on my original post.

And speaking of which:

Although Williams have yet to make an announcement on their drivers for next season, it is widely assumed that Rubens Barrichello's place is not at risk - and that supposition has been lent some weight by Sir Frank.

"He has enormous experience," he said. "He is now, without doubt, the most experienced driver in the pit lane and he does demonstrate that very frequently.

"His technique is very understated, he's a very smooth driver. He likes to be mollycoddled emotionally a little bit, and he likes being told how good he is, but we don't have any problem in telling him, we believe strongly in him.

"He's good fun and very experienced and that is a great value to any team."

Aaaawww! Mollycoddled, aaawww. Likes being told how good he is, aaawww.
