Why would the driver leading the world championship deliberately crash to take someone else out? [unless your Michael Schumacher of course] That makes absolutely no sense; it really does not add up; deliberately crash to give his team mate the incentive, I think that Mark would rather walk away from F1 than do that!!! I believe it was a simple momentary lack of concentration; got a tyre on the white line and lost it bouncing off the wall; there was plenty of force to pitch his car back across the track.

When he puts his hands back on he is already in the middle of the track, so if you consider that then you will see why he was merely just trying to get to the grass without impact, so that he could properly turn his car around and limp back to the pits.
