On wiki it states that Schumi signed with Ferrari in 1996 for a 2 year contract for $50 million. Thats how he can afford his island off the coast of dubai

I didnt find out if he received a bonus for winning races or the title. Im sure there was something in place to motivate(not that he needed motivation back then)
