i dont think that alonso and massa are the best team mates on the grid, far from it, that has to go to Jenson and Lewis! :)

I think you're right....so long as Lewis always gets his way!

 They both get their way. Neither want to win by walkin g all over their team mate-they'd rather not bother.

Oh sure, the whole McLaren team sit around singing kumbaya and discussing mutual love....you have to be kidding!

They havent taken Buttons wing and given it to Hamilton thats for sure... Look closer to home for you mate if you want a favourite at a team! (outside of Ferrari of course thats a given) :hehe:

You just cannot isolate the McLaren Team of 2010 from the very same team that has created devisive and internal competition in previous seasons. Prost/ Senna, Hamilton/ Alonso....just for starters. There will always be a "preferred" driver in every team. Hell, Webber is leading the championship with 4 races left but Red Bull still DESPERATELY wants Vettel to get there.

 He has done a fine job thus far keeping the working environment a positive one with a pairing of two champion drivers.

Massa vows to help his teammate
19/10/2010

Ahead of this weekend's Korean Grand Prix, Felipe Massa has vowed to help his team and teammate Fernando Alonso as they battle for the world championship titles.

"I made good use of my time (since Japan)," he writes in his latest blog for the Maranello outfit, "getting as well prepared as possible for the final trio of races, which is going to be very important for me on a personal level to fight back after the disappointing outcome of the last two races in Japan and before that Singapore. However, more importantly, I will be trying to bring home a significant number of points to help the Scuderia in its fight for both championships.

"I have experienced the new circuit on the simulator and first impressions are that is a very long track, which is why the race distance is just two more laps than at the last Grand Prix in Japan. It has a very long straight indeed and a mixture of high and low speed corners: we will therefore need to ensure that the F10 runs as efficiently as possible, delivering good top speed for that long straight, but also generating plenty of downforce. These characteristics mean that first impressions suggest it could be similar to the Shanghai circuit, although you also have sections - hard braking into slow corners - which are more similar to what we see in Bahrain.

"Will it suit the F10?" he continues. "Well, apart from when the Red Bulls have sometimes run away from the field, Ferrari has been competitive at most circuits and there is no reason to think differently this time. We have seen this year how important it is to get everything working well right from the start of Friday practice, running reliably to get through the engineering programme without any technical problems. That will also be the case this weekend, but in addition, the first few runs on Friday will be the first time we discover how accurate has been the simulation work we have done back at the factory. That will also be the time to discover the real grip level on offer from the track surface as this is something that is not so easy to do without actually putting a car on the track.

"As for my aims this weekend, firstly we need to qualify well on Saturday and after that, in the race, I want to be in the middle of the
battle for the drivers' championship, fighting with those five drivers who are chasing the title, which is the best thing I can do to help
Ferrari's and Fernando's aspirations as we head for the end of the championships. Korea will be the last of a trio of Far Eastern races and I would like to arrive back in Sao Paolo for my home race, with a good result in my pocket. I know that everyone in the team, at the track and the factory is completely pumped up for the challenge of these last three races and I am equally keen to give them my best shot."

That is genuinely what most McLaren fans think.

Even though I'm not a Ferrari fan, I expected Massa and Alonso to get along better than what they have, but for some reason the chemistry seems (and I emphasize, seems) to be all wrong. They get along as co-workers, and purely as that. Poor Massa never has a friendly co-driver!

Alonso is what we call in Puerto Rico... Muy jodón.

There's friction in all teams...In fact, in any group of people. Everyone is different, and eventually something will happen that will piss off another person.

The trick, and apparently in what Whitmarsh has excelled, is in handling such situations. Add to that the fact that Jenson and Lewis seem to really get along fine. That of course doesn't preclude that they will never have a disagreement or an argument, but in the end things seem to be put behind.

Not Kumbaya, but very reasonably managed.

It's not a zero sum gain situation, team have more than enough resources to support two contenders. Any friction would come from the drivers themselves or if the team have a strategy that involves putting their eggs in once basket for whatever the reason.

So far, McLaren has remained harmonious, Red Bull and Ferrari certainly haven't. Harmony doesn't guarantee a winning team obviously but there's enough variety of team philosophy to pick whomever you want to support.

We would call Alonso... un personaje. (a character) hehe

Yeah. Not bad at all.
I dont think there's been a bad vibe in Mclaren. Whether there's been a team order or not, its been handled well, and i would say, even if jenson didnt get the best strategy in Suzuka, i'm sure he doesnt feel he got screwed per se...

Red Bull... maybe a little bit of bickering, BUT they hit eachother and they are both going all out not lifting off for anything. They are also in the best car, so they feel one of them is going to win the WDC... they're giving it their all and under a lot of pressure.

Good point there, and it can sure be a fine line at times, are you better off overall supporting one driver (more resource efficient, keeps him very happy, less pressure on him which leads to better performances etc) and taking the loss of happiness with the other driver, or just trying to support both drivers?

It's fluid, al depends on how happy single support makes that driver (Alonso loves it) and how the second driver responds (Massa surprisingly positive I think, determined to prove himself).

Obviously there are other factors, Redbull can actually afford to support both drivers without really worrying about resources as they've got the fastest car, McLaren have real trouble splitting their drivers (close to each other in WDC) and neither is prepared to give way.

consequentiality, perhaps (just putting a suggestion forward) McLaren lead Ferrari in the WCC whilst Alonso is ahead in the WDC.

Though Ferrari's WCC can be strongly attributed to Massa struggling this season and Alonso's up and downess.
