intresting thoughts from christian horner there....but i dont think jenson was being used as what he described...because if the soft tyres had degraded then he would have been in a good position...so at the end of the day...the decision was going to be hero or zero and sadly it didnt quite work out....

Horner just doing his usual pot stirring.

Buttons call, might of worked if he manged to keep his place ahead of Alonso after the start

Na it still wouldn't have worked. He was over a second a lap off the pace of Alonso & Hamilton after they pitted.

what stuffed him was the SC at the start. The extra laps of fuel burn helped the guys on the option. If the race started on green then the tyre wear on the green track might have been as anticipated and Buttons pace would have been better.

I put 20 bucks on him to win. I was spewing when the SC was called!

Ya the SC was a bit of a disaster for his strategy alright. It was out for such a long time.

But wouldnt the RBs have pulled a larger gap (without the SC)? The difference would have been they would have pitted earlier, but still the laptimes would have been all about the same.

I see it as just a gamble that didnt work out (same as Webber's huuuuge stint in Hungary), and Button ended up holding the RBs back allowing Lewis/Fernando to catch up as a side benefit.

But Horner is playing his games well, and got Mclaren on 'explanation/justification' mode...
Maybe if english wasnt Whitmarsh's first language he might have gotten a few flaws to expolit out of his explanations :hehe:

They burned a bit of fuel off during the SC and werent as heavy as they would have been if there werent a SC. Jensons hope was they would eat into their options and pit at around lap 10 or 12. Didnt happen.

Agreed, the minute the SC came in, his strategy was ruined. I believe the choice of the option tire was made by Jenson.

It's a rookie big boy's comment... says more about who Red Bull sees as their competition.

You mean the same guys calling vettel crash kid and making 'cheat' allegations about their front end...
<EDIT> Says more about who is trying to villanize the possible champions (as ussual):rolleyes::rolleyes:

But Jenson would have also been heavier. So no benefit there either.... of course, this is all in hindsight, perhaps Jenson was counting on RB eating the soft tires... but seems they would have lasted more than just 12 laps anyway.

Hmmm... let's see, both are allegations, yet only side's "the crash kid" and "cheat" have been corroborated by fans other teams and the sporting media... Red Bulls is conjecture on the part of Red Bull.

Occam's razor. But I understand... this is playing in the big leagues.

No, he needed the option guys to burn out their tyres, His was a long first stint he wasnt going to race them on raw pace, just stay close enough and then build a gap once they pitted. A gap that would hopefully have been enough for a pit stip. But the SC period made the option guys go another 7 laps than expected and last longer on the options. Pre race Bridgestone predicted the options would last 12 laps tops on this green race track due to the rain. Having SC period pushed back this window and made their pit window a lot later.

And yet... "cheat" hasnt been corroborated, by the entity appointed to corroborate...

And even yetter... crash kid being named for having as many crashes as "gear box" kid, only that nobody even bothers to make a name up for him. What would be the use??

But yes, I understand... this is the big leagues.
