i think it has ruined, as it gives some advantages to the consistency much than the victories...just see the 2003 standings, Raikkonen with one victory was fighting with Schumi with 6 victories...

Possibly, for complete confusion, a different points system for the WDC compared to the WCC. The current points system recognises reliability (WCC) but not wins (WDC). So maybe the 15-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 for the WDC and 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for the WCC.

Probably far too confusing though.

Scrap that idea, it was rubbish. I'm gonna go an do some work!

why not go for the simple option....
1st place = 10
2nd place = 7
3rd place = 6
4th = 5
5th = 4
6th = 3
7th =2
8th = 1

giving credit to 1st place, and an extra point or 2 for fastest lap.

that means that the winner will always score more points. but 2nd place could get within 1 point if hes faster on laps. 3 points is a big difference.

if a drive wins 2 out of the first 4 and comes 3rd in the other 2 he would score between 32 - 40 points. gets credit for winning.

if another driver comes 2nd in all 4 races he could score 28 - 36 points.

Clearly if Kimi had won that year it would have been just wrong.

I just think Points should only be considered AFTER wins. For example if you have 109 points and have 5 wins and the other guy has 4 wins and 110 points the one with 5 wins should be champ because he won the most races.

This year both Alonso and Hamilton had 4 wins. The points would come second and since they both had 109 they then go to the next set of tie breakers.

Leave the constructor points the way they are. That way you give the team credit for having consistent machines.

It sure is a giant can of worm's so to speak. I would also like too see championship decided on the number of win's and then the lower placing's, the driver's with no win's, decided on finishing position's in the race's.

How about an even bigger points gap between 1st and the rest?

e.g:
1st: 20
2nd: 10
3rd: 7
4th: 5
5th: 4
6th: 3
7th: 2
8th: 1

1st 1,000,000
2nd 400,000
3rd 200,000
4th 5
5th 4
6th 3
7th 2
8th 1

What?!?!?!

I also think bonus points should be awarded at the end of the race to who does the longest jump in a 1969 Dodge Charger...

That 'most victories is champion' idea is a different view, although typically the driver who wins the most races is the champion anyway, wouldn't people agree?

I know there are a few examples of that not being the case but nevertheless...

NO. I'm gonna bring up what is deemed a NASTY subject here on forumula1.com, NASCAR, but it is a perfect example. Matt Kenseth won the 2003 NASCAR championship with only ONE win :lol::roll: !! He just laid back toward's the end of the season and protected his point's lead, THAT'S not racing.

Haha, i don't mind NASCAR that much... i must be one of the few brits to ever say that! I watch it if i ever happen to see it's on, unfortunately that's usually 2am on some random weeknight.

But anyway, yeah, my point was directed only at modern Formula 1... i know Niki Lauda has won the title having only won one race, although i might be wrong, and if he did it would've been under the crappy aggregate system.

Are you serious someone won a NASCAR title with only one win?

See thats a travesty and I would hate to see that. F1 came very close this year to a champion being someone who won two less races than the guy in second and I think thats wrong.

Yes it's true Matt Kenseth won the '03 championship and he has never really lived down all the bullpoo he recieved for winning it in the manner that he did.

giving extra points for fastest lap nad such, would lead to too much confusion, so i think it should revert back to the old system. 10, 6, ......

What would be so confusing about the 'fastest lap' scenario? We have computer's to take care of all the data input now which they did not have when the 'fastest lap extra point' was still being implemented.
