Overheard in the pitlane today: Alonso and Massa discussing how Massa will hit the wall near where Hamilton did during practice but park his car on track bringing out a safety car. Alonso pitted on the first lap and now finds himself in 1st behind the SC. Post race: Alonso denies "knowing" anything of the "plan" :lurker:

Told you Massa would bring out the safety car  , just at the wrong time

It's hilarious hearing Ferrari fans mirroring their shepherds in wishing massa to get back to the Felipe of old, when I'm sure winning in Germany would have done just that for his confidence!

That was my point at the time; Felipe Massa now knows that he will not be allowed to win a race for the rest of the season if Alonso is immediately behind; his motivation to drive the wheels off the Ferrari will be low considering he is effectively a #2 driver, things could have been very different if he was allowed to win in Germany!

Yep Will Buxtons short conversation with SD on the pre-race grid said all we need to know  .

Ruddy Massa, what was he thinking at the start?

It's true his performance seems to correlate with harder/softer compounds being used (being faster on the softer ones), but even so, there are better drivers on the grid who Ferrari can get next year, mainly Kobayashi and Kubica

Seems the urging fell on deaf ears. Demotivated instead of motivated, maybe?

Really feel for Felipe. He's trying and happy, but it just isn't happening for him yet. I hope he can put together a good race.

Bit harsh mate

Sorry, I thought your Massa quote was ironic. Did he really say that?

Its very surprisng that none felt bad for poor old Kimi when he couldnt get his act together. Oh and dear old Heikki... I wonder what must being a #2 did to his career and self esteem...

So what would be different had Massa not allowed Alonso by:
Scene 1) Crash on track. Alonso 30+ pts behind, and massa with 18 less than his already disenhearteing tally

Scene 2) Massa motivated as hell, with Alonso over a race win distance from Mark and massa with 7 more points to gain on Kubica for the WDC standing

Hmmm. If it were alonso getting the uber-poor results Massa is getting... Im sure you'd all be calling for his head, not worroying about his ego.

Um youre biasly assuming Alonso would have even been able to pass. He raced all race long whinging (quite pathetically )on the radio "think about the championship" Prime example! He obviously knew he WASNT faster and needed the team to do something or else Massa would win. SIMPLE MATE :wavey:

Egads! You really are savaging Fernando today.

Here's a quote from someone I really respect:-
"What is obtained by love is retained for all time. What is obtained by hatred proves a burden" :)

Yeah, he did say that.

He also said this on the Ferrari site after the race:-
"These past two races have been frustrating for me but we have seen many times this year how quickly the situation can change: I will be trying my very best in the remaining three Grand Prix.”

I have so much time for Felipe, he is such a great team member and, I know we haven't seen the best of him this year, but I'm sure he'll come back.

He's like a great football forward, he loves scoring goals and he is great at that, but, his nature also allows him to pass the ball and make the assist. Something valued in every other team sport and highly valued at Ferrari.

It is a big thing to come back from what happened to him. Ferrari will stick with him next year, make no mistake about that. The Tifosi will really celebrate his next win.

Apologies for my inappropriate rofl. I feel for the man, under-performing and maybe not in a good place, mentally. After returning from his horrendous accident he needed to show that he was still the racer he was and has not been able to. He has a contract for 2011 but I'm not as certain as you that Ferrari will stick with him.

It seemed light-hearted and I took it that way, I was just giving it the wide-eyes response.
I think Felipe is just one good performance away from "turning the corner". I really hope it happens soon. And I hope I'm right about him being at Ferrari next year.

And I bet Alonso hopes your right too. Kubica's head would be a much tougher nut to crack.

Kubica and Massa's contract both expire at the end of next season I think? It looks practically a done deal if Massa doesn't step up, personally I hope for Kobayashi and Kubica driving for Ferrari, what a team!
