This week, we join Mad Max as he discusses the effect Lewis Hamilton has had on Formula 1.

From Planet-F1.com

The FIA president Max Mosley believes Lewis Hamilton's impact in F1 has been exaggerated.

In a convoluted interview with the BBC's talk show Hardtalk, Mosley explained that another successful season for the Brit could have an adverse effect on the sport.

And Mosley claimed it would be "surprising" if Hamilton had known nothing of McLaren's possession of the Ferrari dossier which cost his team a £50million fine and disqualification from the constructors' championship - although he stressed he had no evidence either way.

Hamilton missed out on the World Championship by a single point following a gearbox failure in the final race.

But Mosley believes the rookie's fame is a consequence of his novelty value and attention could easily have been attracted by one of the other young drivers in the paddock.

"He has certainly helped enormously in the UK," said Mosley.

"He's also got a lot of interest worldwide because he's come manifestly not from a rich background. He's just made it.

"There is always somebody new. If it wasn't him it would be either [Nico] Rosberg or [Robert] Kubica or one of the other new stars, a [Sebastian] Vettel, would suddenly be the big one.

"So I think there is a tendency to exaggerate the importance of Lewis Hamilton."

Mosley also revealed he is worried about the "Schumacher effect" should Hamilton match his 2007 performance next year.

"If he does the same thing next season as he's done this season, it will certainly have a big effect," he said.

"It will start to be negative because we'll get the Schumacher effect where people start writing to me saying can't you do something to slow him down."

Ok, the first thing we can see is that poor Max seems to be contradicting himself. He begins by saying that any other young driver, such as Rosberg or Kubica, could have had the same effect if they were in a McLaren and finished 1 point short of the world championship.

However, he then goes on to talk about Hamilton possibly having the "Schumacher effect". Now, to say this after the man has had just one year in the sport is a fairly bold statement. You would almost think that Lewis Hamilton has had a big effect on Formula 1, causing Max to come out with a statement like that. Does he think a Rosberg or a Kubica could also have a "Schumacher effect"?

What the hell is he trying to say? I can't be the only one missing the point of this latest statement...

I agree with him that there are other great young drivers, however, the rest is a crock of s***. The man is clearly doting. I think he needs to resign and be taken into care.

I completely agree with that statement. In fact, i don't see how anyone living in the UK could disagree with it given the non stop talk about him on ITV's coverage and seemingly everywhere else.

Now I thought Ballestre was bad - the Frenchman was a pussycat when compared to the English looney!

He seems hell bent on attacking all things McLaren - but then he is a fascist, from a fascist family......I bet Ron Dennis is Jewish!

So Max doesn't think LH has the minerals to do it again next year and he's basically said LH's "effect" is predominantly in the UK.

I can understand this, I was living in the UK when Button made his debut with Williams, it was all about Button, I even had to sit through some Poxy song his girlfriend made for him.

It's interesting to note he's trying to say LH is not totally guilt free from the Ferrari saga either.

I'm starting to think Max likes to stir the pot to get a reaction out of us...

That must have been painful.

I think in the end, we can all debate about Hamilton but his staying power will be proven only by the test of time. Who knows what will happen next season, alot of things can change or he could go on and exceed everybody's expectations.

One thing I will say, what the hell is he doing releasing an autobiography?? He's 22! Whether it's his choice or he's been 'advised' to do it, still a bizarre move.

OK, lets look at this scenario. Your next door neighbour is shouting it from his rooftop. Maybe the 1st and 2nd nights you're ok with it, but anything after that is old news and he's getting snipered down because you want some peace

I agree it can get annoying for the "core" fans but ITV etc are in this for the advertising revenue and if shouting about a British F1 driver gets them 9 million viewers on a sunday then who can blame them?
