Can Massa take a new engine tomorrow without effective penalty tomorrow. The regulations on the number of engines say:

28.4 a) Each driver may use no more than eight engines during a Championship season. Should a driver use
more than eight engines he will drop ten places on the starting grid at the first Event during which
each additional engine is used. If two such additional engines are used during a single Event the
driver concerned will drop ten places on the starting grid at that Event and at the following Event.
An engine will be deemed to have been used once the car’s timing transponder has shown that it has
left the pit lane.

If Massa uses a new engine tomorrow, he can't drop any further back. In the chatroom it was suggesated that if he takes a fresh engine tomorrow (in addition to his original that he'd lose his other remaining engines. But I see nothing suggesting that in the regulations. It just seems that if he uses a 9th engine, that the first race he does so, he drops ten places. So, Massa gets a "free" engine change?

Exactly. I think he should slap on a brand new engine and gear box. The penalty will be issued, but its going to be meaningless.

Yep, free engine and gearbox change if they want. Penalty won't have any effect cause he's already at the back of the grid. He can definitely still use his other engines at other circuits.

I would say Alonso has more to fear from crash kid than Lewis has.
I think the biggest winner in todays shoot out is Lewis. Webber behind his team mate and both Alonso and Vettel behind him in the WDC.

Now I wasn't expecting that, also even at this "redbull track", those redbulls aren't silly amounts ahead of people, but I wonder if they focused most of their development work on the race and starts in particular, or if their big upgrades are still in the pipline.

Oh and sorry about Massa, these things happen sometimes, still, it might just be his first real reliability problem all season?

Interesting shape up from the grid, but I think even if Alonso nails the start it'll be one of those races just wondering if he'll break down sooner or later.

Rest of the race might be boring though, well, we can at least watch Massa making his way up through the field.

Oh yeah, and Senna just got destroyed by Klien (sp).

If Alonso leads into the first corner tomorrow he will be hard to beat. He is saving his best for last. Two poles on the trot.

I think Lewis will jump Vettel at the start will be interesting to see if both he and button can make it.

We're bound to see a SC tomorrow lets hope it doesn't cost either of the british drivers key points.

Kudos to Kobayashi for a hell of a drive and showing Sauber that's he's a keeper. His Q2 time was nearly 3 tenths faster so he'll be very competitive tomorrow.

Fantastic drive for Barrichello, he's almost smelling a podium and I think this is William's best shot of the year. I doubt he'll get there, but I'd love it if he earned a spot on a step tomorrow. It will all depend on how good a start he came make.


So what's going to happen in tomorrow's start? A front row that likes to SQUEEZE, both Vettle and Alonso spend more time trying to squeeze the other person than actually driving for the best line to turn 1, it's going to be a nail biter.

Quite a gap between the first 3 and the rest of the field. It's clear that Vettel Alonso and Hamilton are the best qualifiers in the sport today.

Rain? At this point I'd love to see everything stay dry, with the conditions in Singapore, with rain it would simply be a battle of attrition.
