Gutierrez named BMW Sauber reserve for 2011

Esteban Gutierrez is to be BMW Sauber’s test and reserve driver for the 2011 season. Gutierrez has already worked with the team during 2010 as an affiliated driver and gleaned his first Formula One experience behind the wheel of the BMW Sauber F1.09 at the young driver test at Jerez in December 2009.

The 19 year-old recently took a comfortable victory in the 2010 GP3 championship for ART. He notched up three pole positions, was on the podium a total of nine times and won five of the 16 races.

“Esteban is extremely mature for his age, and it has been a great pleasure to have him with us a great deal of the time this year as an affiliated driver,” said team principal Peter Sauber. “The team was rooting for him during his intelligent fighting performances in the GP3 Series. We are confident he will continue to develop strongly. With his modest manner and keen desire to learn, he has also made himself very popular among the team.”

As an affiliated driver, Gutierrez has spent a great deal of time in the BMW Sauber garage during Grands Prix this year, enjoying access to the pit radio and technical briefings.

“In that way I learnt a great deal about the professionalism and practical procedures in the Formula One team,” explained the Mexican. “Plus, in early September I had an opportunity to attend the team’s fitness camp with the two team drivers. Formula One is my ambition, and I’m really grateful to Peter Sauber for his confidence in me and my ability.”

Gutierrez will be in the cockpit of the C29 for the young driver test, which will take place following the season finale in Abu Dhabi in November.

Di Resta is looking mega likely to be a Force India driver next season. Question is, will Liuzzi get sacked or will Sutil be leaving?

Maybe both.
But where would Sutil go... replacing Schumacher at Merc GP??? or to Renault? I think those are the only interesting (potentially open) seats for him... unless Frank Williams is also out shopping....

(edit) - ah just noticed, you had posted about some rumours reg. Sutil replacing Schumacher already.

Okay, i'm now hearing that Maldonaldo HAS SIGNED for Williams next season in a 15m euro deal. From what is apparently a reliable Brazilian source. Will post more if i hear anything else.

That would make him the 3rd or 4th highest paid driver on the grid no?

It's essentially a pay drive - the money will be from PDVSA (a Venezuelan oil company).

Ok, that makes more sense now... Unless all of the sudden it started raining money in F1.

Maldanando to Williams. To be honest, I'd be shocked to see it go ahead. Rubens is contracted for next year. So that would mean getting rid of Hulkenburg, which would be stupid in my opinion. Nico deserve's another year, not forgetting that he still has massive potenial. There's nothing Maldanando would do better in Williams compared to Hulkenburg.

Also, apparently Luzzi has a contract for next year, whilst Sutil doesn't. Di Reista and Luzzi at Force India for 2011?? Doesn't make much sense to me either. Surely Force India would rather see Sutil and Di Reista next year. A contract to be ended early perhaps??

Doubt there'll be much movement in the drivers market this year, much like 2008-2009 where the only teams who made driver changes where STR and Red Bull.

That's an oxymoron if there ever was one!

Hm, how long can a virgin be slutty while retaining her virginity? So, I think one of the two terms has to give...
