YES! In the Times today. Mclaren have issued their drivers with team orders, and the orders are "fight to the finish". Whitmarsh has issued this order and restated that neither driver will be asked to move aside even if it means losing the championship.

Lewis-"Jenson and I would be proud to go neck and neck to the end. And if we end up losing the championship to someone like Fernando because the whole team was for him, I wouldnt feel too bad about it. I would feel like I had worked my hardest and done my best."

Jenson-"It is very strange to me that a driver is told to move over when he can still fight for the championship. I dont understand that at all-and I dont understand anyone anyone in the sport who would want to race under those circumstances. If you are not racing to win, what's the point?"


And the paper sums up - ' Formula one fans the world over want an Italian GP raced between honourable men and their teams, not an ugly fix to suit one man and his team.'

Lewis and Jenson are both honourable, friends and team mates. If one of them can no longer win and moves over it will be his decision because of these reasons NOT team orders.

It was more Lewis asking if he went into fuel saving which was asked by the team if Jenson was Fuel saving aswell, since if Jenson wasn't fuel saving than Lewis would be giving Jenson an easy overtake.
And the problem with giving that example is the fact Jenson DID OVERTAKE Lewis like 2-3 laps after the radio message so even if you believe that was a team order the drivers clearly ignored it and continued to race each other.

Lewis's Race Engineer assumed Jenson wouldn't pounce and he was badly mistaken. There was nothing sinister.

No its just they're a race team not a team for prima donna's. Whats the big deal in winning if you can only do it if your biggest rival is ordered to pull over?

Not quite, Massa wasn't his biggest rival, but more or less to all intents and purposes no ones rival for the WDC. Though I don't know if that was the motivation, or all Ferrari were doing was making sure that Alonso diddn't try to overtake and risk damge etc (ie if Massa was beating Alonso for race pace nothing would've happened).

But how could Masa beat him on race pace when they were both asked to turn their engines down and alonso turned his back up?

I don't really get what they are being stupid about.

There are plenty of races left and its not like Button is out of contention for the WDC even if most people believe he isn't a good driver, id agree if it goes down to the last race and Button ends up finishing 1 place ahead of Hamilton which costs Hamilton his WDC for example but when you have 2 cars that could win the WDC team orders shouldn't even be a consideration.

I'm not encouraging them to use it now, but hasn't Whitmarsh just said in your example that team orders wouldn't happen and he'd rather lose the WDC? He seems to be making an ideological statement that they will not happen at all (within Mclaren).

If that were the case the drivers would make the decision, a team order would not be issued.
