is autosprint a good source?

I have heard the BBC quote Autosprint a number of times in the past so I guess it must be a reliable source. But it makes perfect sense to make sure the team/company behind the team have enough financial resources to make it to the grid; avoiding a situation like this year; where one team didn't make it and another barely made it!

It's a good move by the FIA, think we can attribute this one to Jean Todt's presence (at least), since under Max they seemed to be doing the opposite.

Its already a solid grid with 24 cars so I dont see a biti difference if there is a 25th and 26th one on grid. And anyway the new team would be likely to be like HRT this year and we wouldn`t notice them too much.

I don't see why there was so much resentment again USF1. I can understand the point of view if you were a fan of a team trying to make it and didn't but where the resentment comes from I don't see. There is absolutely no guarantee that any other team would have made it or would have had the funding, HRT is a perfect example.

I wanted the team to make it and race simply because it would go that much further in expanding F1 support stateside. The money simply wasn't there and it was handled miserably, but I'm sure there were a lot of very vested people that moved their lives around to follow a dream. The dream never materialized, but at the very least they had a philosophy of bringing fresh ideas and being a legitimate constructor, that was probably their failure, just biting off too much instead of just buying Toyota's assets.

It was probably they're arrogance, just diddn't seem to be thinking things through properly with their insistence on two American drivers for example. Still, yeah I hoped they'd produce a good team, but they diddn't.

I do not think that HRT would exist if it was not for Alonso. Without him bringing the Spanish F1 spotlight.

FIA rejects new team applications

Formula 1's governing body has turned down all the entries from teams hoping to fill the vacant 13th slot in 2011.

The decision ends for now ex-world champion Jacques Villeneuve's hopes of returning to the grid as the Canadian had lodged one of the rejected entries.

The FIA said on Wednesday: "None of the candidates meet the requirements to be granted an entry."

It also released a 20-race calendar, with the new Indian race set for 30 October, two from the season's end.

In other changes, Brazil replaces Abu Dhabi as the final grand prix of the season, which will end on 27 November.

The longest F1 season in history - with one race more than in 2010 - will start in Bahrain on 13 March before moving on, as this year, to Australia, Malaysia and China.

Turkey replaces Spain as the first European race of the year on 8 May, with the Spanish race following two weeks later.

The British Grand Prix marks the halfway point of the season on 10 July.

There are four back to back pairs of races: Malaysia and China, Spain and Monaco, Germany and Hungary, and Japan and Korea.

The 13th slot arose as a result of the collapse of the US F1 team before the start of the 2010 season.

Among the teams applying for the vacant slot were Villeneuve's, which was in partnership with the Italian ex-GP2 team Durango, and another bid from the Spanish outfit Epsilon Euskadi, which was one of the teams who were rejected in 2009 when the FIA approved the applications of Manor Motorsport which became Virgin F1), Campos Meta (which became Hispania) and US F1.

Lotus, the third of the new teams on the grid this season, took the slot vacated by Toyota when the Japanese car giant pulled out at the end of the 2009 season.

None of the three new teams this season have scored points, and they remain some way from the pace of even the slowest of the established teams.

The decisions came at Wednesday's meeting of the FIA World Council, the organisation's legislative and disciplinary body.

It also announced its intention to push on with plans to licence certain specified staff members of all teams competing in its championships.

This is a reaction to the controversy over Renault's attempt to fix the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix by asking their driver Nelson Piquet Jr to deliberately crash to increase the chances of his team-mate Fernando Alonso of winning the race.

The FIA's decision to ban Renault bosses Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds from taking part in any FIA championship was overturned in the French courts so the two have effectively not been punished for their actions.

A statement from the FIA read: "The World Motorsport Council will submit a proposal to the General Assembly that a specific licence is created for a restricted list of members of staff of the competitors entered in the FIA World Championships.

"The aim is to introduce a system that ensures they are subject to the criteria set out in a new FIA code of good standing.

"This would apply to a minimum of six people per competitor, including the team principal, sporting director, team manager, technical director and two race engineers [or equivalent].

"A new mechanism will be introduced to control access to areas under the jurisdiction of the FIA and no pass of any kind will be issued to any person or body who is not in good standing for the purposes of the FIA International Sporting Code.

"Entrants will also become responsible for their staff, meaning any person connected directly or indirectly with the entrant in connection with their participation in an event."

Agreed, however i'd probably rather this than a false hope of someone new who doesn't actually get their act together. *USFcough* Or, who turns up laughably of the pace with seemingly no hope of ever getting on it. *Hispancough*

For me, this signals a need to perhaps revamp or review the ban on customer cars, certainly for new teams. That is, if the powers that be actually care about having 13 different teams and 26 cars on the grid...

Glad to see Brazil as the last race, but think its stupid to have Bore-rain as the opener. If you have to keep such a shitty track, at least don't make it the first race of the season.......hide it somewhere in the middle

Stefan GP pulled out of 13th team race as it felt that it would not have enough time to prepare a car for next year after the FiA failed to keep to their July deadline!

Stefan GP exit blamed on slow selection process

Stefan GP boss Zoran Stefanovic has pointed his finger at the FIA for withdrawing his application for the 2011 slot due to the delay in the announcement of the 13th team.

Along with Epsilon Euskadi and the Jacques Villeneuve-Durango partnership, Stefan GP was believed to be one of the contenders for the following year, however it is believed that in the end it was a two-horse race.

“We pulled out of the process in August so we were not considered after that,” Stefanovic told F1Pulse.com. “We had applied at the beginning but we found out that the process was too long and it didn’t give us assurances on the time when someone will be chosen as the 13th team.”

The expression of interest for the vacant slot was released by the governing body in March earlier this year adding that it would lead “to a decision in July 2010.” However, the announcement regarding the choice on the 13th team was made in this month.

“That would have meant that we wait until September but then it would be too late to go in and design a car for next year,” he explained. “That’s the reason why we pulled out of it and after we were not considered, by my knowledge, just two teams remained but both of them were found unsatisfactory as per the FIA explanation.

“We think it should be faster and we think it’s necessary to have a 13th team,” he added. “But we’ll see. That’s the decision of the FIA.”

There have been reports that Villeneuve is planning to take over an existing outfit after his attempt to launch his own team was rejected however Stefanovic has no such plans.

“At the moment we are not doing that thing specifically,” he said. “We will see in the future what we can do.”

Passing reference to Villeneuve and Durango looking to purchase an existing team but that could be no more than a 'trophy' acquisition. JV is unlikely to 'do a Brawn' and pick up a team with prospects and develop it into a competitive outfit. Hispania is probably the only team available and there's absolutely no chance of jumping them to even midfield, let alone anywhere near the front.

Anyone know if JV is intending to drive himself or just run the team?
