geee, to be honest i didnt even pay attention to Red Bull's wing. There was less bouncing around such as in Hungary; but anyho the RB didnt seem at a loss... it had good pace considering the Renault is supposedly weak.

It's had good pace all year long, but good pace not astronomical pace as in 1.2 seconds to Ferrari and 1.8 seconds to McLaren in Hungary. So they're back to their original 8 tenths they had all year long in qualifying. Less at the high speed long straights tracks.

But hey, look at the bright side... we KNOW there wasn't anything illegal with the wing because it passed the test right?

I still reckon that they modified the wing/floor to pass the test.

As they say in tennis... DEUCE.

Watch this ( sorry if it's already been posted), Red Bulls wing is flexing as much as ever, check out En Rouge, the flex up and down alarmingly, At the corner at the top of the hill you can see the wing come up a couple of inches.

Acctually I've just rewatched, there flexing, but I'm not quite sure there flexing quite as much as in the past, they flex a lot in en rouge but they would wouldn't they.

I'm sorry, you just cant look at wing "flex" at Eau Rouge. The compression on the suspension makes it look like the car is basically painted to the track. Please dont even try.

And most of us have already agreed that the wing isnt flexing.

I'll go with the evidence of my own eye's whatever you've agreed, I find them to be a more reliable source of information.

I wouldn't say the wing isn't flexing, they all flex to some degree but through Eau Rouge there's the increase in vertical g force pushing the car down so the wheels and suspension arms rise relative to the onboard camera as well as the increase in the weight of the wing maybe adding to it's flex a little makes it look more flexible than it actually is.

Wouldn't teams need to be running a different front wing at Spa anyways since it is a highspeed track? Either that or it isn't flexing because they have it at it's lightest setting for less highspeed drag - therefore not a lot of load?

This video is quite interesting. It suggests lots of different possibilities. At the moment, i am in no mood to address so i shall leave it to you lot :D.

For those who didn't see this before it was taken down, in the seconds before Vettel swapped ends, his front wing was see-sawing up and down as it went into and out of the turbulent air coming off of Button's car. It was at this moment Sebastian decided to start sawing on the steering wheel, causing the car to spin out - partly because the front wing was moving about so much it would have massively reduced the stability and front downforce.

Over on ESPN.

Jenson Button seems to think the wing changed specs due to the new test.

According to Jenson Button, the more stringent bodywork flexibility tests enforced by the FIA have had an adverse affect on rival team Red Bull's competitiveness.

Button was taken out by Sebastian Vettel on lap 16 of the Belgian Grand Prix as team-mate Lewis Hamilton went on to take a dominant victory. And although Mark Webber took second place after starting from pole, the Australian was fortunate to benefit from the retirements of Button and Vettel as well as a mistake from Renault's Robert Kubica.

Although Red Bull claimed that the medium to low downforce nature of the Spa Francorchamps circuit simply did not suit the RB6, Button suspects Adrian Newey had to modify the car to meet more stringent bodywork flexibility tests.

"I think Red Bull's pace was affected by the new tests," said Button. "I hope the new even more stringent tests for Monza will have even more of an effect. They say they won't have to change anything but they said that here. Watching the car here on the track it was not flexing as much."

Yeah, I saw that. The wing was definitely flexing a lot less than it had been for the most part, but it seems to have had a lot of trouble remaining stiff in the turbulence coming off the back of Button's McLaren. Perhaps it's attached too weakly? It could conceivably have failed, which would be one hell of a slight against Red Bull's build quality since Seb had a front wing fall off already this season.

It was "flexing" the same as in the other races. It was most evident in pouhon. It was not loosely attached as that would just put Vettel's life at risk and would clearly be an insult to the RB mechanics. I dont think they made much change to the car in that regard and in the video the movement of the front wing may be caused by the car bottoming out under breaking without the floor of the car flexing due to the lack of aerodynamic load.

I was quite interested in reading on the ever growing thread on the flexi wing, from now on we will see flexing but perhaps not to the degree it was. As RBR have said in the news its quite simply damage limitation on a lead they dont have (Drivers Championship)

Its a very hard call, and Spa is not a "Red Bull" (nor Ferrari it would seem) circuit.
However on race pace Vettel in particular was not the customary .5 sec a lap faster.

I think we'll have to wait a couple of races to see if RBR have surreptitiously "stiffened" their wing to pass the new tests, and if this has any discernible performance effects.

In 2009 Red Bull had a similar car, they were VERY fast in Silverstone and they were pretty good in SPA also, still in Monza they were practically nowhere so they should be weaker in there.
