I'd love to see that happen simply because it's 3 hours away. </selfish>

I'd love to see 26 F1 cars racing around this track despite it's hospitality shortcomings. The racing is almost guaranteed to be better than any Tilke designed Austin, TX track!

Is it a pre-requisite that any new track to the calendar must be be designed by Hermann Tilke? I can't remember the last time a existing track was added to the calendar!

But that's Bernie, innit? He's always taking decisions that leave the rest of us scratching our heads. Why not Watkins Glen? Why not Indy? Why is he so damned determined that any US venue must be a new circuit? They're speculating the circuit at Austin will cost $200 million USD to construct. Surely it would cost less than that to renovate Indy or Watkins Glen or even Laguna Seca or Sebring (yes, F1 have raced there, too) to suit F1's currents ideals.

Why it's almost enough to make you believe Bernie is receiving kick-back from Hermann.

I'm pretty sure Bernie would say it would need a big increase in facilities, and for once he is right. I would love to see F1 there though! Surely wouldn't the F1 car's undertray would crash against the corkscrew.

It's not a Tilke so how you gonna get an F1 race there?

If that increase in facilities were to require more real estate, that could be a show-stopper. Laguna is shaped like a giant triangle, bounded by a US Army post on the two sides and a major motorway on the third. There's not much room to grow. If they were to need more land, their choices would be to convince the army to sell off parcels of their old artillery range (which first would have to be sanitized to EPA specs) or to reroute the very road that race-goers drive on to get to the circuit.

Why don't they just build some elevation and add a "corkscrew" corner to the Austin track, let's face it, Laguna Seca isn't that special if you take away the corkscrew!

On the start finish straight at Laguna Seca, with the speed f1 can accelarate to, wouldnt the cars get a bit of air. If i remember rightly it drops quite alot doesnt it?

In 2006, Ricardo Zonta set the Laguna track record -- which still stands -- in a Toyota TF106. I expect it helps to have more downforce than weight > 70 mph. This amateur video has a better shot -- such as it is -- of Zonta running down the finishing straight at full suck.

Have to agree on the detest Tilke tracks but Laguna for F1?.After doing many many laps on grand turismo I just can't see anyone getting near overtaking, although an F1 car through the corkscrew could be interesting.

The youtube race someone posted a few weeks ago showed great racing but still they couldn't get passed with touring cars let alone GP cars.

Would love to see something along the lines of laguna for a GP circuit, but sadly no for me on the original
