Smokin i guess we shall disagree,i see luck or lack of is destiny, when you enter F1 luck does play a huge part in any outcome so for this i will agree, however a driver such as Chandok who has talent i don,t deny, but its really not in the same league as say Alonso,Hamilton,he has a very wealthy father who has opened doors,Bernie is a family friend,India will more than likely host a GP,so is he unlucky?
My own opinion is he,s not, infact he is very lucky to be part of F1,for many its just luck to be considered let alone compete.

Agree with OP, but thinking long-term or whatever none of them are especially unlucky.
But I'm also thinking Glock and possibly Kovaleinen or however you spell it. I can't make up my mind.

I'd say De La Rosa, but I think he isn't finishing races because of his faults more so than lack of mechanical reliability. Otherwise, Glock or Trulli. Because they had a generally competitive car last season, and now they find themselves as backmarkers.

Kovaleinen deserves to be where he is. He failed to perform for McLaren. He was given a GOLDEN opportunity to maybe win 5 races in a season. He was very lucky to win one.

Hey an interesting stat: there are only two drivers to have finished every race this season, and they are both driving for Ferrari. That's a pretty good stat. Based on that reliability, Nando will at least finish the season third in the Championship. :)

Yeah I had no idea about Kovaleinen, honestly. I just figured he was unlucky because he drove for McLaren before. Trulli is a good one.

McLaren drivers are unlucky!!?? :P

McLaren drivers are unlucky!!?? :P

Nono dear, I meant because he drove for McLaren previously and now he drives for Lotus. If that makes any sense.

Yeah, but it wasn't really bad luck IMO, as that was reasonably in his power to change. He wasn't fast enough, unless we put it down to "bad luck" that he diddn't have it in him.

Oh yes yes, I realize that. I think what I meant was that he was on one of the best teams, and perhaps he thought that by going to Lotus he would be successful, and obviously he was wrong (if that was the case).

Nick Heidfeld. Nick was not a bad driver but somehow got thrown out of the boat by BMW exiting and then all the driver moving around - Button to McLaren andd Schuamcher out of nowhere in Mercedes.

When has Nick had some luck? Nick holds or is close to some of the most painful records. He has finished something like 8 times in 2nd place without taking a single victory; he took part in 169 races without a single victory and scored 219 points yet to take a win. And then he stayed without a seat for 2010.

Kovalainen can`t be described as lucky either. A difficult year with Renault under Braitore; in McLaren he was a certain Nr.2 driver under Hamilton. Though Heikki`s performances weren`t brilliant either. Stuff just didn`t come together for him.
Lotus is his lucky and unlucky place at the same time. From the unlucky side he is now at the back of the pack fighting for 19th place on grid with no hopes for points, but from the other side he says stuff like he feels better at Lotus than at McLaren. Maybe after all he can hope for the team to climb up the ladder and be better with more seasons to come.

Trulli is the same story. But he got already quite a 'few' races behind him so Lotus is where he`ll end his career, the question is will he score a point before his career is over.

Glock in the same boat aswell. Unlike Heidfeld he atleast got a drive, but quite honestly he seems to be at the edge of nowhere. Lotus seems to be the most serious of the new teams even though it wasn`t originally selected by the FIA. While Glock`s Virgin have had more issues...but we`ll see what happens with them.

All those driving in top teams can be lucky. Some mechanical failures might be there, but that`s racing and it simply tends to happen. But those 3 drivers fell from atleast scoring points to the end of pack more than a lap from last point scoring place.

Perfect sense. You're speaking about the 'downfall' element I suppose. Though can't agree completely, he simply failed to perform at any level compared to his teammate, and he still has a ride! Unlike Heidfeld who did the job last year and is currently a test man.

Yes, I agree - I just named him but I didn't know a lot about his whole situation. I still think Heidfeld is pretty unlucky.
