I've always rated Jenson Button, great driver, Always goes out and gets the maximum amount of points a car can get, he'll get the maximum grid position too, a great value F1 pilot. But I was never sure untill this year that he could do what kimi, Alonso or schuey could do, Outdrive the car! drive beyond his equipment. Strangely it took a turd with wheels to show that he could.
When he drove Benetton in 2001 he was all at sea, he's definetly improved since then.

I totally agree.

Jenson has his critics, but I've always believed that given a truly competitive car he could be a match for anyone on the grid. It's strange, but his biggest problem has actually been his loyalty to Honda.

This season has definitely shown he is a quick driver, despite the equipment he was given. But, had he have been at Williams, perhaps it could have been Jenson on the podium in Montreal, instead of Alex Wurz...

My personal opinion on this is that after Jenson´s career is over, he will be remembered as could´ve been just like mika salo

I believe a couple of years ago jenson got a bit stuck up his own arse with all the girls and what not but after hungary 06 i thought he'd improve dramitacally its ashame to see honda struggle. Hoping he ends up at Mclaren keep us brits happy! :D

I was going to post the Q a few days back re; Button ? Honda.

should he have stayed there beyond this year, most other teams have a cars from which they can develop 08's car, but Honda really do need to start with a blank 'piece of paper' can they produce a car where Jens can challenge the leaders or be near the front of the other 'best of the rest' teams, i think 08 may be better, but cannot see beg enough advances showing through. i hope i am wrong, i like JB's style and would love to see him challenging for poll

Nice to see some positive comments on Button. I think he's the driver most likely to be underrated on the forum. He's a great driver, wet or dry, has an even temper and a cool head. I would be ecstatic to see him in a McLaren next season... don't think it's likely, but it's a lovely thought.

Perhaps Freddie would like to regale us with his details of driving career and what makes him uniquely qualified to make such a statement !!

That's a new use for women, I have a distastful mental image.

Back to Jens though, Yes Honda have to start with a blank sheet next year and I'm not hopeful, they brought some of next years aero parts to the China I think and they immediatly took them off because the didn't improve the car one jot.
Jenson however did say this years car was a weird one, no matter what you did to it it didn't improve the situation.

I can't see Honda doing a lot for a while. Even if they do improve, there are are three or four cars which will be decent next year: McLaren, Ferrari, Renault, and BMW. Other teams like Williams and Red Bull seem to progressing well. Honda will need to pull out something special. Japanese Formula One should be ashamed of itself.

As for Button, I think he's a solid driver. His smooth style certainly means the car is likely to finish (provided the Honda engine doesn't pack in), however, I don't think he's as great as some other drivers on the track.

Button is a good driver but he's not an X - Factor driver. Does well in the races he should but not in the races he shouldn't.

Maybe if I was English I would have some nicer words for him, but I'm not, so I dont...
