here's what i think, if the red bull front wind passed then surley that should be an incentive for the Mclaren designeers to think of some more great ideas like the f duct that has caused a bit of a stir at the start of the season and i qoute from bob bell at renault in bahrain ''its totally ilegal'' it will also be intresting to see what happens when the new tests are introduced by the FIA by the belgian gp .

i am a hardcore mclaren fan and have the confidence that they will find a performance improvement, plus with long straights at spa and monza, they should have a decent chance of doing well, and definatly if spa is wet :)

Dont want to take the confidence off you... but I wouldnt be so sure. The F duct is neutralised (according to Mclaren).

I am certain the rest of the season depends on Mclaren and Ferrari getting their diffusers working, and whatever decision there is about the front wings. Unfortunately for Mclaren, the final decision comes after the break, so they wont be able to get much done in these couple of weeks... while Red Bull and Ferrari have the same weeks to figure how to beat the new test.

McLaren will have a wing that does exactly the same thing that the RB and Ferrari's do, so it will either be legal for all, or illegal for all. What a million here or there worth of development? It's the teams struggling for cash or the teams with less development resources that will suffer.

Hopefully. but yeah, i thought they would go half speed not to spend much time on something that could be deemed illegal. Not only from a $$ view, but also from not focusing on other areas... guess we'll see in Spa.

FIA should make their decision now and not allow all that money to be wasted.

I assume that each new part needs to be cleared by the FIA before it can be used? If that's the case then the part must be legal to pass those tests, it's smoke and mirrors to try to destabilise the Red Bull team, this is something that has gone on for years and years, it's nothing new.

It was my understanding that the FIA has already made the decision and said the wing is legal. The wing is legal. That ruling was challenged and again it was determined...the wing is legal. Yes, McLaren thinks the wing should be illegal...but it isn't. Its not. It's ALREADY been asked and answered...the flippin wing is LEGAL. I find it funny that Ferrari is getting so much flack for wanting rules changed to benefit themselves....most of that flack coming from McLaren fans and yet this wing that has been deemed legal more than once now is still being talked about like it should be illegal....still....ad nauseum.

It's not fair...they have a guy who is smarter than our guy...make that illegal!

Please...get on with it already. Or better yet, keep complaining for months on end rather than just build another wing. That way, you have a good reason to tell your fans why you ended up 4th in the championship.

Like I said, it's the haves and the have nots, and I'm not sweating it for McLaren, but I am sweating it for the other teams on the grid that are struggling for cash like Williams and certainly Sauber, not to mention the zombified HRT.

Well I unerstood that the FIA hadnt tested it properly and were going to retest more strigently(they forgot it needed to be moving fast when they tested it)
If its legal, fine, no problem(that wing we see touching the floor at speed must be a figment of everyones imagination). But ok, if thats how it is, fine, other teams can make one.
But why are the FIA talking about more tests? If they want to retest then do it now so everyone knows which friggin wing to take to spa.

Didn't they announce what the future test will look like? 100 kg with 20 mm flex max. If so, nothing should prohibit teams to work on a wing that matches those specs, so what's the problem?

Well if thats what they've said and this time they've not made errors, then I guess its ok. But people assumed theyd got it right last time.

Well they spelled out the test they're going to use, so the trick now is if there's enough "wiggle" room in the flexing portion (whatever design it may be) to not flex more than the allowed limit under the new test.

To me it seems simplistic enough and it may be so simple that the FIA may have someone that knows about carbon design the updated test and know that that load will be beyond the ability of the carbon.

I've heard that your typical F1 car generates 1300 lbs of downforce so the wings are damned stiff to begin with, and RB probably has already tried that new test on their wing.
