I know it's been said but I want to go on record saying vettel's penalty was unfair. No driver would know that rule, and he was not the lead driver, he didn't even know the SC situation.

If you get paid multiple MILLIONS, the expectation is to at least read the rule book and ask questions, so yes I would bet that the majority of the drivers on the grid knew that.

And the team should know the rule and let him know on the radio.

P.S.- Imagine a soccer or hockey or basketball or football player claiming he didn't know that rule.

Problem was he lost his radio earlier...

Beats losing a drive shaft.

I understand that but I don't think even then a driver has to memorize every detail. The team could direct him but really(had the radio worked) I bet it's something no one in Hungary but Charlie Whiting knew about LOL.
And there were several other aspects that cause alot of confusion about the SC for Vettel through no fault of his own. He was not the leader. He didn't know the staus of the SC. I don't think he could have known what to do.

Webber still had to make his stop. If Vettel held up the pack long enough before returning to full speed then Webber would gain valuable extra seconds which he wouldn't have to make up on fast laps so maybe hanging back was deliberate  . The flaw in my argument is that I'm not sure that Vettel would be that generous to his team mate...

What you have got to remember about vettels penelty is that when i was given it wasnt known if he had intentionally held up the pack to let webber gain an advantage, looking back i probably wasnt fair, all in all its been an awful weekend for mclaren i just hope they can get their act together for Spa but im not counting on it.

Regarding the red bulls, Vettel may have been ignorant of his infringement of the rules, but he never the less did infringe them. Ignorance is no defence. he should be aware of the rules. I dont believe he acted delibertely but most punishments come from accidents not deliberate attempts to flout the rules.

I agree with rooney and I agree with racechick but there were extenuating circumstances. I think they realized after talking to him once they knew that they wouldn't have penalized him but it's done and you can't undo it.

Apart from Ferrari team orders, of course. Sorry, wrong thread.

Brundel Knew the rule. . .

He did indeed, he's a knowledgeable chap!
#210079
There's nothing that indicates Brundle knew the rule. And why do so few people in here know how to spell Brundle? Brundle was just reading what was given him as to what the penalty was for. it was on the screen that was shown the world as well.
