There's a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L02sfAVMFxI of Alonso a few years back in the rain.

Not only in the rain he did this... but also in the dry, during his time at Renault he seemed to have a very odd steering technique - at every corner he doesn't "smooth in" the steering, but waits until the right moment then "snaps" the wheel to the right or left. Either the car was that perfect and he had 100% confidence, or it's a way to put the Renault in understeering somehow and let it work out (I believe they had the mass dampers at that time still)

Well if anyone with racing experience would comment on tis...

Yeah dunno.
I was always of the impression that the smooth technique was the quickest nut then i saw a little piece on schumacher and why he was so good (this is on youtube by the way so you may want to look it up). In it they show data from his steering inputs compared to another driver and his data shows a very jagged line compared to the other driver indicating that he is not as smooth. But the say that this is because he has got the car so close to the limit that he continually adjusts just to keep the car on the track. Where as the other driver doesn't have the car quite as close to the limit and therefore doesn't have to adjust as much.
I certainly don't have any racing experience but am an avid motorsport fan so you can take my comments with a grain of salt. But i would say it is horses for courses. Everyone hase different driving styles and so long as they are quick nobody is going to criticise them to much.
I will say this though. The blokes out the front are usually the blokes with the best cars and more often than not you will se them working the wheel less because the car is usually going where they want it to go.
