Apart from the Ferrari scandal, did anyone see any overtaking done during this race??? I noticed DelaRosa when he changed to the new tyres late in the race but apart from that I saw none at all. I know there was overtaking on the first corner but big deal. This track seems to have a couple of good overtaking opportunities in it but these cars are just impossible to pass in which makes for a boring race. Look at the battles throughout the race that were close and provided nothing, Hamilton v Webber (early race), Hamilton v Button (late in the race), Kubica v Schumacher (after pitstops) and the cars from 8th to 13th were with eachother pretty much throughout the whole race but nothing came from it once in this ordinary race. I hope these Pirelli tyres give better racing for next year because these races have been pretty unspectacular lately in terms of drivers actually overtaking eachother.

When I heard Martin Brundle say after Webber and Hamilton pitted that that was the last set of stops my heart just sank, because I knew then that we were in for another 'finish where you are' race. Why get rid of refueling if this is its substitute? I think the Ferrari scandal wouldn't be getting this much publicity if there was more overtaking throughout the field in this race. Instead, us as fans, just have to chew the fat over the only available overtaking that happens in F1 these days and that is the guy behind can overtake provided that the guy in front will wave him through.

I was glad I watched the highlights instead! No there was not a lot, only a few passes while others were in the pits. The main pass was when Alonso took the lead from Felipe Massa which, according to Ferrari was planned.

I liked when Lewis took Webber in the hairpin =D

My point exactly. I thought Kobayashi was about to put a move on Webber when he came out of the pits but couldn't, even though he was so close. I'm an Aussie so I'm watching the races because Mark is in it and its great to see him doing really well these last two years. And I'd say most people are watching because their national driver is doing well or is able to compete at the top level, but as a bigger fan of racing itself, no matter what nationality a driver is or who I go for, I am appalled at the lack of overtaking in the series. Perhaps Bernie's idea of shortcuts wasn't such a bad one. But if thats the way Formula One has to go then perhaps I should be watching the likes of Aussies Will Power and Ryan Briscoe compete in Indycar, or watch Stoner in MotoGP where I know the racing will be awesome.

I think on the purpose built tracks that teams should be allowed to test the day after a race. This ban on testing hasn't changed anything in terms of racing (which includes overtaking)

Real overtaking manouvre - 1st lap Lewis (who else..) on Webber

P***y overtaking manouvre - The 2nd most famous manouvre of this sort after Austria 2002.

Other than the obvious over-taking that involved Ferrari and Alonso their wasn't that much over-taking but it's not really a circuit where I'd expect to see over-taking if I'm honest. The places at the back from around 10th downwards constantly changed every couple of laps and that was where the real action was to be had, not the fake battle for the pole. Barrichello was constantly changing from 14th to 12th and back down to 13th I noted and the battle between him, Kobayashi, Petrov and de la Rosa was one to enjoy and thankfully the BBC has their wonderful driver tracker which is handy as it enables to watch most of the race other than that being beamed onto your screen.

I'm yet to try the driver tracker out but it sounds great! The pedro de la rosa overtake was fantastic, shame it was the other way round...

Hockenheim? More like COCKenheim.

Actually this track has given good races in the past. This was the most boring race it has delivered, maybe because of teams taking it more conservative as they don't know how the tyre situation would be here. With these new regs, and tyres being the crucial point, all the focus is on them and it's like walking a tight rope all the time. Last time with fuel, you do have the do or die situations when you know you're behind a car that is stopping later, and HAVE to overtake to make up some time/gain an advantage.

Bring back refueling.. It was the real spice of F1 race. There will be more than just one stop strategy n will be not like now when all drivers in slow speed at the beginning by heavy fuel load n also slow at the end to conserve tyre.. Thats the reason why less overtake not just this race but all this season..

As boring as the first race and I hate cheats

Don't sit on the fence, pilot; tell us what you really think!

Exactly, with refueling there was more change througout the race. Now if they're going to pit in the first 15 laps of a 70 lap race then the rest of the race is a snore fest. If they can't bring back refueling then just one compound of tyres that only last a quarter of a race distance unless the driver can look after them like Button. Then we should see some exciting racing between drivers who want to go for it compared to drivers who look after their machinery, real hare and the tortoise type stuff. Schumacher used to do this back in 92 when he would put on a set of fresh rubber towards the end of the race and because of that nearly won the German and Australian GP's.

The top six drivers and cars are more or less equal in lap times. These drivers generally do not make driving errors and the cars don't vary a lot because of the rules. Changing conditions like periods of rain make for the best racing to watch in F1.
