Illegal passing rule this time. So no surprise there.

Jul.20 (GMM) Ferrari wants a rule change in the wake of Fernando Alonso’s drive-through penalty imposed during the recent British grand prix.

The Italian team criticised the time it took for race director Charlie Whiting to answer a query about whether Alonso, who cut a corner, should hand back the position to Robert Kubica.

Ferrari claims it took the FIA almost two minutes to respond, by which time giving the place back to Kubica would have been complicated.

“We will discuss an amendment to the regulations: if the race directors are not involved within 3-4 corners afterwards, the manoeuvre is considered to be correct,” team boss Stefano Domenicali said in an interview with La Stampa.

Following Ferrari’s furious criticism of the safety car rules after the preceding Valencia race, the regulations were tweaked at Silverstone.

When mischievously asked whether the rules need changing after every race, Domenicali smiled: “It’s a very complex sport.”

Why must Ferrari go and spoil everything F1? Or more precisely di Montizemolo and (increasingly) Domenicalli. It's getting to the point now that if they keep whining and more often than not getting their way with the sport; and F1 does indeed become Ferrari, then I'll not bother with it after 20-odd years of faithful watching.

Seriously, I'm getting more and more peed off with the way everything is going in this "sport".

What a load of rubbish, choose a part of the track that has the quickest sequence of corners, do the crime and drive through the corners to save punishment, this wasnt very well well thought out.

It should be 3 laps to make a decision.

Can anyone remember how long it took the stewards to award Hamilton's drive through penalty at Spa after he didn't break any existing rules and passed Kimi? Or again, how long it took them to award his penalty at Magny Cours?

Or Webber's last year?

why must rules be changed when they dont go their way yet are quite happy to accept the outcomes of dubious decisions when they go their way? Not surprising though Ferrari think they can do what they like as it is.

What happens if race stewards are investigating multiple incidents?

The bottom line here is, IF Ferrari were leading the WDC or WCC this rule changed discussion would not be on the table. It seems like the whine of you don't win mentality is spreading.

They need to FOCUS ON THE CAR (which they've made great progress in) and tell the drivers to go out and get the most out of that car and keep their nose on their own plate.

A rule change... what for??
The damage is done. There is no real surprises or loophole in what happened. Not the same case as in valencia where a serious flaw in the SC system was seen... but in this case, it was nothing strange.

Maybe race control was slow, but the decision to give the position back was as straight forward as can be. MAYBE the pass was legal, but as has happened before: when in doubt, give the place back. Also the SC coming out was bad luck, but it was simply that. Poor timing, not poor implementation.

if the pass was CLEARLY illegal, then why was the decision not clearly immediate? The fact they took a while to analise it, made it obviously not clear. BUT it being not clear is why Alonso should have given the P back.

Na mate its tiring hearing a fan boy like yourself go on and on about the pass as it might have been legal when any kid on a go kart track knows its illegal! . its clearly illegal to any racer with smarts, cutting a chicane is as basic as it gets, the fact Ferrari and Fernando tried to manipulate the situation and say we thought it was legal just shows their arrogance at the intelligence of the stewards. The stewards did not take a while they took the normal time. geez have you even watched F1 in the past???

What the hell is wrong with Ferrari management? I have the feeling that Ferrari is headed for some rough times. There's something about the team lately that doesn't seem right, it's not looking like a well-oiled machine. Let me clear up something, I think the team itself--mechanics, drivers, engineers--is still top notch, but management seems pretty much messed up.
