the fact here is the disproportionate penalty

ahh no a drive through penalty is given for cutting a corner and gaining place, nothing disproportionate about it.

Are you sure? ..usually is return the position to the overtaked.. oh wait was retired! ..so where is the point of sanction for restrablish the normal order were there was no1 to benefit?

..ofc that ovbiating the fact that was previously sanctionable dnt bring spot and drop out of the line a paired racer, threatening hardly the security.

Yep, Ill give you a couple of examples

Lewis Hamilton drive through penalty France 08 for cutting corner gaining position against Vettel

Lewis Hamilton post race drive through penalty Spa 08 for cutting corner gaining position against Kimi (even though he did slow down and give position back) and kimi crashed out shortly after.

So much for Lewis being favoured

I'm torn on this one. Alonso should have given the position back straight away in my opinion, I thought that was pretty clear cut. He had plenty of time to do that before Kubica retired and, from what I recall of similar incidents, the stewards are generally quite strict on this sort of thing. But the penalty seemed incredibly harsh because of the safety car and Kubica's retirement. I suppose sometimes you get lucky and somethimes you just don't.

This is not really open to interpretation. Alonso passed kubica with all four of his wheels off of the circuit. Regardless of how he arrived at this situation, EVERYONE knows since the EXACT same thing happened in Spa 2008, that you give the place back and don't reattempt a pass for 2 corners. There is no argument here! The end! Really!

I won't go over the events of spa because everyone knows, but really if Alonso fans feel aggrieved here, then imagine how Hamilton fAns felt when he gave the place back and still got penalised!

It really puzzles me that Alonso didn't give back the position to Kubica. He's way experienced, and he knows the rules about that are really black and white. I was expecting him to slow down and let Robert pass, but the he kept going and I was like WTF? Dude! You just tossed away your race.

Like I said, absolutely puzzling.

People dont really understand the rules.

It was 2 laps from the incident he retired, he should of been let back through within the next few corners easily. I got a notice saying Car 8 and 11 will be investigated before he retired. So he was going to get a penalty regardless.

Also, Kubica has the right to defend the racing line, Alonso could either go off and do what he did or pull of accel and get behind Robert.
