the more I think about the job that Pirelli have the more I don't envy the task.

What they need to do is produce a Hard and Soft tyre for each track that makes it almost impossible to choose between them.

IE Hard tyres are 1 second a lap slower than the soft but last for an extra 20 laps. Then with a 20 second delay for a pit stop you would get an exciting race. (Assuming there is no Safety cars)

However if they get the ratio wrong then the racing will be terrible because every driver/team will be on the same stratergy so there will be no good v bad type moments in the race.

I think they should get rid of the start on you qualifying tires rule as it just forces the top ten to start on the softs and run the same strategy.

For the love of god, get rid of this stupid 'use both compounds' rule. :(

I think now with no refuelling, the old rule of choosing soft or hard before qualifying and sticking with it for the race might work pretty well.

Speaking of new tires, I just bought a set of Continental Extreme Contact DWS. Best performing set all season tire I've ever bought.

Agreed.

Would hopefully lead to some interesting battles between drivers on alternate strategies. Only problem is having tracks that you can overtake on - having said that Kobyashi did a great job on new rubber at the end in Valencia of all places so maybe there is hope!

How about this for a suggestion. There are two tyre suppliers but they are not aligned to any teams. Teams have to choose their supplier for quali and then stick with it for the race. This will allow for on the edge tyres and tyre development, but will not allow any team to get in bed with a supplier.

But it will though, because a certain car will work better with some a certain tyre phylosophy(spl)

Also what happens if all the teams choose tyres from company A for a race then tyre company B will not be happy, which could lead to sponsorship contract issues.

What about team choose tyres for qualifying, then starting with the slowest team they choose the tyres they want.

Well point 1) yes that will happen. some teams will suit some tyres more than others. Thats the same now, but there'll be more choice with a second supplier.

Point 2) If all the teams choose company A then company B have to work harder :D

Point 3) Not sure what you mean. Do you mean slowest teams get first choice and there are limited amounts of sets from each supplier?

That's an interesting idea! It'll obviously never happen because of the commercial aspects, but seeing as we're just being hypothetical anyway, i think two things would most likely happen. 1: teams' choices would change en masse from circuit to circuit depending on which manufacturer (or to be specific tyre compound) suited the circuit best, and, 2: one manufacturer would produce a superior wet weather tyre and we'd maybe see teams taking a punt on the weather, and it either paying off spectacularly or failing massively.

yep that is what I meant, it just made sense when I wrote it. each company prove half the field and the slowest teams on aggregate qualifier times get the choice of tyres.

I can see where You're coming from. But I kinda like an open choice. more chance for gambling and Tyre makers being radical.

I personally want it like...

Abolish the rule regarding the use of both compounds
Scrap the need for pits, only for people who want to change tires / repair parts of car (broken front wing...etc)

Have two types of compound, hard and soft... however make it so Hard Tires last alot longer but are significantly slower than the softs.. make them equal but not equal if you know what i mean

I agree with all of that. Just make sure the hard tires dont last the whole race, maybe have them go 3/4 distance and drop off. Who needs ajustable wings, kers etc :banghead: .
