I think Brawn is missing Barrichello's input, if Mercedes are indeed slipping back then we must remember also what Eddie Irvine said a while ago that Schumacher was "not the greatest in car development" after the time when Irvine reported that Schumacher ditched a front wing he didn't like, and when Irvine had used it he found a second a lap gain.

Perhaps Nico is beggining to get upset about Merc focusing on Shumacher's problems... frankly, I am surprised they havent been able to get gains, while teams like Williams and Renault definitely have. I dont mind... im happy Renault are kicking arsch.

Rosberg has a point but maybe the last paragraph about tight budgets has a lot to do with what can and cannot be done. No offense to accountants, but they're not known for making decisions based upon technical merit.

Look at it in the long term.

Williams, for all I love them, do not have major financial investment, whereas Mercedes do.

In 5 years from now who do you think will be closer to the championship OR will have been able to fight at the front for a prolonged period of time?

Mercedes came in saying they were expecting results THIS YEAR, next year at the latest. We'd have to look at how much racing heritage perception Mercedes wants to instill into their brand. My guess is that the only reason Mercedes is in F1 today is to clean up the image of the monkey pile they got into with Chrysler.

Yes, Williams' situation is parlous with the collapse of one of their major sponsors. Hope they can fill the gap and keep going forward. They'd be a great loss to F1. As for who'll be in a better position in 5 years' time I have my doubts that Mercedes will continue as a team owner. Their engines are good but their team development doesn't seem to be. Who would have thought that a team run by Brawn would go backwards? The signs that the others were overtaking them were there during the second half of last season but I expected them to come roaring back. Instead, they're arguably behind Renault and even Williams on the evidence of the last race.

Williams were pretty excited about the (possible) introduction of a USGP... because one of their major sponsors (AT&T) is based in Texas. Perhaps this will help them extend the time and ammount of their colaboration with AT&T. So i'm not sure if Williams is doomed. Maybe they still have a shot at regaining some spots lost during this crisis.

Obviously, all the other teams will also be attracting more sponsors becaus eof the US market. But if there's a budget cap of some sort, it will still be better for Williams and the other small/new teams.

According to Adam Parr a few months ago, Williams already had 70% of their 2011 budget in place, but then they are now also expected to lose several key sponsors, so does this mean that they've either got new big sponsors in the pipeline (please be Canon) or are they renewing some of the current sponsors?

Also according to an inside source in the team, without Barrichello they would have been absolutely nowhere this year. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the "problems" with the FW32 were largely due to work on the car having started development before Barrichello joined and that Rosberg and Crashajima - both being inept at car development and knowing they were on the way out - just lead the team on a goose chase.

Barrichello is doing a fantastic job!

Hopefully the remaining 30% gets either picked up by AT&T considering the USA move, or they are able to find some smaller investors now with the USA market....... maybe the 30% depends on the rest of this season?
I have a feeling Williams will make a little bit of a surprise and deliver a couple good results. So far, Hulkenberg has not been poor and Barrichelo is definitely doing very well. They've been lurking... but somewhat improving.

Improve reliability... and maybe get a bit extra from the diffuser. That's what they need. Still, Force india is kinda far ahead of them, but I think Williams will improve more than FI.

Hey I don't want to diss Williams, but it is as simple as this. Mercedes has the money to spend and does not need to lurch from year-to-year making sure that it has enough to compete.

For me the days of Williams winning the world championship are over.

I cannot see it unless they find a large investment boost i.e. a manufacturer.

Whereas, although they didn't get it right this year, I think that Mercedes has the finances in place to compete at the sharp end.

They will hardly end up like a Toyota imo.

Edit: You could easily use the Brawn excuse back at me, however with no major rule changes on the horizon (apart from changes to the power train which will surely favour the manufacturers anyway), there doesn't appear to be the opportunity for it to happen.

I'd like Williams to win Grands Prixs again and I hope they do, but a championship challenge? There would need to be alot in place for it.

For the past two years Brawn had a heat retention problem in tires. It's time for new talent in suspension engineering and set-up.

I does seem that way. At the very start it seemed like Nico had some say. But these days it looks like Schumacher is running it again. If its true and Nico is still faster. This must be a sour pill to swallow.
