I like Whitmarsh's quote:-
But McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh insisted: "These matters always go to the stewards and they made a decision.

"That is pretty normal in my experience - but Fernando may have a different set of experiences."

A lot of brits, on this forum included, call Ferrari and Alonso sore losers. You
guys love doing that, and it's kind of fun. Yes, the winner takes it all, up to
the point of that coming unfairly. Ferrari, and Alonso, built up a lot of
unhappiness through the recent past, vis-a-vis Mclaren and Hamilton's
practices, and finally snapped big. For the brits, that's difficult to
understand, because you're smarter than that. You conquered the world after
all, through bravery and slyness (ask the french!). By natural law, that deserves
respect. The italians are much less able to restrain their emotions,
and awful at politics. I used to dislike that. The brits are everywhere in
the F1 structure and their subtle ways of out-maneuvering the others are
almost a pleasure to the eye. But when that becomes too apparent, including
this GP, it's no more fun. And the weaker souls will revolt.

In the end, the sense of fairness becomes more precious than winning races and this event
pushed me on the Ferrari side. As far as the drivers, there seem to be many out
there just as, or more talented than Hamilton, (Kubica and Vettel included) while fortunately
lacking his cockish ways. The free pass he's always got for his
offences also comes for an obvious reason. In the US we call it reverse
discrimination. You don't need to agree. Sadly, I think that will hurt his
character down the road.

Alonso couldn't believe the downscaled treatment he's got at Mclaren in '07 and I think he was greatly affected by the misery that followed, at Renault etc. He had high hopes for a competitive car this
year and several circumstances went against him. Then this. I personally
don't see why this many people here call him names. I see him as the best
mixture of talent and brains out on the surface. This last one is for the brits.

@ Ewan and Scotty,

its impossible to have a logical discussion about Lewis and McLaren as well you know. Infact id say it is much much worse than what is said about Alonso and Ferrari so i dont see why anyone should be singled out for talking rubbish about Alonso when nothing is said in regards to the s*** about Lewis.

It is impossible for the fanboys you mean! And judging from recent events it is nearly as bad and also will only escalate, i'm just making a (seemingly in vain?) attempt to nip this issue (that i must add is not a singular one-off case, it's in many threads now) in the bud before it gets out of hand like it has done SO MANY TIMES.

Finally, don't make BS claims about 'nothing being done' about Hamilton's or by the same token anyone's haters or fanboys, people who go over the top get dealt with accordingly regardless of their position. Have you seen antoniob recently, for example? :nono:

How about a fanboy/girl/person (not sure what's PC these days) section on the forum.

We can then separate the serious and interesting discussions on F1 from the playground antics?

Far, far easier said than done i'm afraid, cause things spill over. Plus, i'm assuming most official team and driver sites have forums, and they're dedicated to fanboys already, as far as i'm concerned.

Anyway, back on topic:

Alonso: Outburst was ‘emotionally’ driven

Fernando Alonso has admitted that he overreacted in his assessment of the events which marred the 2010 European Grand Prix.

The Spaniard was left infuriated after a safety car period saw him drop down the order and later claimed that the race stewards had ‘manipulated’ the result to the benefit of Lewis Hamilton – who was penalised for overtaking the pace car before the second safety car line.

However following time to reflect, Alonso conceded that his outburst had been emotionally driven.

“We were particularly unlucky in terms of the timing of when the safety car appeared on track.” Alonso wrote on Ferrari’s website.

“It would have only needed a few seconds more or less to totally change our race.

“It does not achieve much going over the events that followed on, but obviously, in the clear light of day, I am much calmer than I was in the moments immediately following the race.

“At the time, I reacted emotionally and in that situation it is all too easy to adopt a tone and say things that can be interpreted wrongly, giving rise to suspicions, something which I had no intention of doing.

“Sure, I understand the stewards have a difficult job to do and they have to take decisions that are not easy.

“What I meant was that those drivers who, like us, respected the regulations, unfortunately in this situation, suffered much more than those who broke them, even though they were given a penalty.”

He added:”I am not referring to any of the drivers in particular,”

“It’s a general matter and I think we should talk about it together in a calm way to ensure that things like this do not happen again.

“I was pleased to hear the FIA has reacted promptly, calling an extraordinary meeting of the Sporting Working Group.

“I am confident, certain even, all the points up for discussion will be cleared up in a comprehensive fashion.”

Nice to see the PR peeps in Maranello have been busy :) and so far we haven't heard a thing from Monty who is either showing incredible restraint or has been locked in a broom cupboard somewhere.

From an entertainment perspective I'd rather they left things alone but can understand the frustration of the drivers and teams when they're on the wrong end of a lucky break.

I think we're just about due another Monty outburst, what's it been, 2, 3 weeks since the last? :P

And what else do you expect from the PR people, they do it to every team! Although the Red Bull's PR people did an appaulling job of papering over the cracks after Turkey. :hehe:

:D Good read. Lewis and Martin definitely put the Ferrari guys in their place there.

Furthermore, with the backing of Redbull's Christian Horner and Lotus' Mike Gascoyne ridiculing Ferrari's claims, it just makes the men in red look like school kids who dropped their lollypop into the mudpit and are wailing about it.

End of the day he has had a very unsuccessful season, hit from pillar to post? Has raced his arse off to get up? A little unfair to him and he finally thinks this is his break...But he gets whacked back....Now he's just angry, what i find more annoying, from all the press time there taking up they could put the time in to development on the car which frustrates me just a little.

Get some new parts for the car and make it a competitive car, they seem to have gone backwards from Canada? But what i find strange is that Lewis is competitive all the way through out. But Ferrari is either competitive at the start or end? And last race he dropped off and got took over by Kumi???

They need to change and sort things out. Even Massa in my opinion raced well and was up with him in the first lap.

They need to work on the car and on their PR. Shut up, Luca, you're makin' 'em sound like fools!
