I hear Ferrari were given technology found at Roswell...

It has to be true! Some people have seen E.T. in the basket next to the spare tires

Anyway, congrats to Kimi. Hard to say if he was best driver of the season, but much as I can recall he was the best sportsman - no scandals, no press crap, no teammate (or anyone else) bitch slapping, no crazy behavior on track, no pushing others off the track either... his title is well deserved, much as I am concerned.

How about the scandal of Massa publicly proclaiming (after being ordered by Ferrari) that he would help Kimi in ANY way he could - and contrary to FIA rules?

No my friend - Massa was the fastest guy in Brazil. and if the race was allowed to run its course without the team orders Massa would have won and Kimi would not be world champion right now.

So although I am pleased it was not Alonso that won the championship, I cannot sit back and allow people to say Kimi won the race fair and square without replying - because he didn’t.

well this is why F1 is as much a team sport as it is an individual sport... why else have more than one driver per team? it seemed like the most ethical thing to do.

breaking the rules is ethical?

According to the FIA, F1 is not a teamsport when one drive cedes his position to the other.

no breaking the rules is not ethical. there are lots of rules in F1 broken, so is it that big a deal?

so what rules are ok to be broken? Refrigerating your fuel? Team orders? Flexi-floors? Or maybe just the ones that hand hand the title to your favorite driver?

I don't personally think Kimi was just 'handed' the title, I think it's fair to say he earned a good chunk of it! And besides, Mclaren or any other team would do the same (provided the drivers got on of course :D )

I agree that Kimi is a great driver and that he earned every one of 98% of his points. But he was gifted two points in Brazil using tactics not allowed in the sport.

So yes - Kimi did deserve to be very close to Hamilton and Alonso on points - but the title?

Yes. Only because the odds were stacked so much against him and Hamilton had it on a plate but couldn't take it. It's not just the final race that determined his win, every point he got did. Plus if you look at the fact he won 6 races as opposed to Alonso and Hamilton's 4 each. It was a close call between all 3 though, no doubt about it! :)

Ok so because the odds of him winning before the race were huge it is then ok to operate outside the rules?

So because the odds of England qualifying for the Euro 2008 finals are huge, can we field 12 players on the pitch for our last game?

No. I was pointing out that I thought he deserved the title, I didn't mention that odds should dictate whether or not one has an excuse to cheat or not. I stated that I personally think he deserved to win for the fact he won more races than anyone else and that the odds were the highest against him out of the 3 of them.

Indeed we are my good man. Besides I picked a senseless battle, as if Ron Dennis could be swayed on this topic :D

Not taking the extra few second on Lewis's last tyre change to fuel him till the end of the race was another bizarre decision on top of not bringing him in at China when he was down to fabric tyres. Two totally bizarre decisions in the last two races of the season, when the championship was virtually in the bag, does look a little weird I must admit.

Who knows, perhaps those two decisions were worth $50,000,000 each to McLaren in a clandestine deal with the FIA and it's masters. 8)

Are you saying McLaren is in cahoots with the FIA? Isn't that Ferrari's role in the usual McLaren-supporters' conspiracy theories? Would be quite ironic...

It wasn't a serious suggestion Dali, hence the little emoticon man with the shades. Even though Texasmr2 said it was "ludicrous", which was perfectly correct, I doubt he actually sussed it either. You two should try to lighten up a bit.

Sonemonkey's theory on the other hand sounds perfectly plausible, don't you think? :)

Riiiight.

Nice point DD. I'm sick to death of reading the one eyed siege mentality of all the McCheater fans on this forum.

You didn't win guys, I know this was your best chance in years and you are all bleeding but deal with it like men not bleating little boys...
