The way that F1 handles the safety car is a JOKE !
They need to collect the field and set the order correctly the way they were running and restart them in order. The racing shouldn't be dictated by where and when and IF the safety car comes out.
That's politics not a racing performance competition. Close the pit lane until they get the leader. Or go back to the order just before the "yellow". Or SOMETHING ! This waiting at the pit out crap is stupid.

Going back to the 07/08 rules would actually be better now because of no re-fueling, so nobody is going to be diving into the pits to refuel anymore even if it's closed.

When I saw Marks car take off and land on its roof I felt physically sick amd thought the worst, especially when it went into the tyres at full pelt. Thank god he's ok and the FIA or whoever deals with the safety aspects of cars these days have my full respect

he's showing his true colours...agen!!!

Lewis clipped Vettel at the start, almost took him and Vettel out. Passed the SC (maliciously or not... doesnt matter). What are the true colors you want to see? in fact.. had it been "normal" Jenson would have finished ahead of Lewis the rat.

In the end, i think it was a race control BIG F-CK UP... (not necesarilly Lewis at fault) which was obvious as soon as the trailing cars went into the pits before everyone and the SC cut in front of the race. I cant believe it took the idiots about half a race to realise there was some incredible stupid thing they allowed to happen. :banghead: one thing is a lottery... another is an obvious stupidity. I didnt even watch the end of the race.

By the way, Alonso had every right to be hoping for Lewis to lose pts. He's the one they're after for the championship.

What a monumental farce.

Firstly, i thought the SC was supposed to pick up the leader? If they'd just gotten that right then all this mess would have been easily avoided. Then to make things worse for themselves, they take ages over what is a pretty obvious decision with Hamilton. Dang, the guy is like the old Schumacher with his luck sometimes, that penalty was basically a nothing price to pay for being able to change his nose without losing any track position whatsoever! And on the subject of Schumacher, what the hell was he doing pitting from 3rd on track behind the safety car, when he could easily have done what Kobayashi did?! No wonder they were shaking their heads on the pitwall. [/quote]

I am glad to see that I am not the only one who thinks like that and has common sense.
FA had every right to complain and LH would have done the same. It's funny people complain about FA's whining but what about LH attitude towards his team when he's on the radio with them complaining :banghead:
LH made a mistake (intentional or not it makes no difference). What matters is that because of his move he was able to come out in 2nd which allowed him to open the gap to the rest of the field.
Had LH stayed behind the SC like FA & FM, he would have ended up behind FA because they both would have pitted at the same time and FA released 1st because of LH wing change.

So again luck and some "misunderstanding" seems what makes LH win.

 I thought the same. But he did get out of the car quite quickly, which was nice to end the scare... that was very scary.

Would of been even better if Hamilton hadn't of hesitated and overtaken the SC straight away.

[EDIT] hope i fixed the quote boxes correctly

why are you blaming Lewis for a mistake that was caused by the safty car not picking up the leaders properly.

Lewis saw vettle go though he should of just done the same and floor it.

he did not block nando its daft to suggest he did.

The onboard footage from Marks car is horrendous. Their logo speaks volumes, "Red Bull gives you wings"

I've not read everything that came before my post so I am repeating I apologise in advance. This is the first time I actually sat down and watched the Valencia race and it seemed like a decent enough race track based upon what I saw today. Loved the Kobayashi move on Alonso and Buemi in the final laps. Excellent drive and strategy from Kobayashi and Sauber. The whole crap with the safety car was a joke; as Paul USA mentioned above; the safety car should have picked up Vettel and only the backmarkers should have been allowed past the safety car and all the BS with the delta lap time, FIA = pointless rules that really don't work; the rules are seemingly anti-racing right now. Mark Webber's crash; wow, it's a testament to the strength of the modern F1 car; to walk away from that crash is amazing! Lewis' punishment was a little light for passing the safety car; he did break the rules; he should have taken up his place behind the safety and waited to be waved past if that was the required action. I can understand Ferrari's frustration but I have no sympathy; Ferrari have gotten away with a lot of transgressions in the past, especially in the Schumacher era!

I'm sorry but where in my post did I say that LH blocked FA.
I'll say it again:

1- LH passed the safety car because maybe of misunderstanding
2- that landed him in 2nd spot after exiting the pits
3- it took FIA 20 laps to give drive through when it should have been 10 or less laps
4- because FIA took 20 laps, LH was putting fast after fast lap opening gap to the rest of field and when he did the DT penalty it didn't matter
5- FA had every right to complain since LH's move made a huge difference
6- Had LH stayed behind the SC like FA & FM did, he would have pitted at the same time as FA
7- Since LH had to change his front wing, FA would have exited before LH who would have ended up in position 10 or more
8- Maybe LH would have passed FA and couple of others but would not have finished in 2nd
9- It should have SV-JB-RB-RK in top 4
10- This means JB should be #1 right now

I hope this makes sense and is clear.

Alonso & Massa should have just overtaken the safety car aswell. Breaking the rules which is what Hamilton did worked out better.

Some of the comments against Alonso for making the FIA aware of the incident are typical of his haters. If Alonso did what Hamilton did the reaction would have been the same. Hamilton would have gotten onto the radio and started complaining about it.

He also would have asked where Alonso was after he served his penalty and why it had taken so long. Then we would have had the same bs speech from him after the race claiming he raced his heart out and hello to my family.

Lewis was unsure what to do and hesitated, had he not done so he would have cleared the safety car..end of; but he did hesitate and was duly punished. nando obsessing about Lewis all race-saying to his engineer "the only thing that matters in this race is that you get on to race control about Lewis " was insane. whatever happened or didnt happen to lewis was largely not going to affect Alonso's race because if lewis was marginal there was no way Alonso wouls beat the safety car, he was ninth whatever. Had he concentrated on his own race he may have avoided being passed by Kobi.

Just remembered something interesting about the Sauber. Late in the race, Kobayashi was putting in some very good lap times on tyres that he had done the entire race on, this is probably because during pre-season testing - when they actually looked like dark horses for this year - the car was good at preserving its tyres, so that's why he was able to stay out so long I think.

If he hadn't hesitated Alonso could have made it by. Alonso was right behind Hamilton. Hamilton slowed down, held Alonso up and then passed the safety car out.

Alonso obsessing about Lewis's race? He f***ing cheated RC and is one of Alonso's main rivals for the championship. So why would Alonso ignore it? A championship can be one or lost by a single point; you should know!

Why did Kobi overtake Alonso & Buemi? Hmmm I don't know. Maybe he had new soft compound tyres on? Do you not understand how much better a car is under braking with new tyres on? He would have been easily 3 seconds a lap faster than Alonso.

Why do these threads always end up being fights to the death between Lewis-lovers and Lewis-haters? I would have hoped that after so long we would have learned not to turn everything into an us vs them argument.

Lewis didn't deliberately cheat. He broke the rules. He was penalised. The fact that the penalty didn't make a difference to his position is largely irrelevant - and it's a reflection of the part luck often plays in the results of F1 races.
The FIA made slow and somewhat bizarre decisions.
Fernando has a right to feel hard done by, but he has overreacted by taking it all so personally.
