A lot of people criticised jensen for his lack of results over the years, but he never had a championship contending car untill last year, and he then went and won the championship!

then he gets criticised for only winning with the best car (despite brawn limiting thier development and slipping behind red bull)!

this year he has joined a team with a front running car (not the best) he has a teammate who is considered to be the very top tier of F1 drivers and Jensen is right up there fighting for the championship with two wins to his credit!

perhaps now the naysayers willl show the guy a bit more rspect for his abilities, although I dont expect the die hard blinkered types to!

Well ive changed my opiniuon of him, and have said on several occassions that I respect him. I still think leiws has the edge; but my opinion of Jenson has gone way up this year.

Looking back to the past (winter testing days)

Anyway.. on to the tyre management. We will see how it goes tomorrow. I honestly don't believe that smooth driving is going to extend tyre life, from it is done at a similar pace to high reaction driving, the tyres might more or less last the same. We see that Hamilton has a consistent 2 tenths to 4 tenths on Button so far, so there is a good tyre management comparison to be made after the fist round of pitstops.

I remember the harsh responses I got from saying this :D . It;s a fact that Jenson's soft tyres finished first in all of the races. :D Even in Canada going by the lap time patterns and Jenson's own admission he just didn't have the tyres nor the speed to close the gap to Hamilton in any meaningful way. In other words the adaptable Hamilton is beating Jenny Boy with Jenson's own weapons. I guess Hamilton's head is rather large for a reason! Very unexpected and Impressive.

It will be fun to watch Hamilton continue to mimic and improve upon all of Jenson's best traits and turn them against him; akin to the style of a ruthless general I must say. :whip:

The Smackdown shall continueth.

You sound like a bit of a Norman to me. Grow up a little, be a bit more sportsmanlike in your responses. Both great drivers 2 wins apiece!

I always support the strongest and I want my driver to crush all other drivers. Jenson right now is a good driver, I even think he would win this year's championship in the '25 if Hamilton wasn't there, BUT! because of the enormousness of Hamilton I can chat even the most impossible of things, and at the end of the day Hamilton will make it happen. It's almost like Hamilton's race engineer, Latham, he can do all the crap he wants; give Hamilton the wrong tyres, pitstop him late all the crap in the world and in the end somehow, Hamilton still makes things happen. I guess it is a luxury us Hamilton fans have.. we can trash talk all we want because with Hamilton anything is possible. Like for instance, I said Button is going to be 0.2 to 0.4 seconds slower than Hamilton and look! he was in all the dry races. How did I know the qualifying gap would be so large? I don't know.. but Hamilton's got to kick some bottom.. and Button just happens to be his team mate. Even Right now! I can say that Hamilton is going to be 100 points ahead of Button by the end of the season and you bet your Button dollar that's exactly what's going to happen! I have nothing against Button, but he is now the victim and In my view he must be crushed or else all the things I believe about Hamilton will be gone to rubbish. And I can't praise Button too much (a little) because that will make people unconsciously think he can match Hamilton and we don't want people to think that now do we? 8-)

Jensons comments don't tell the entire truth. "I was able to keep pace and tried chasing Lewis down etcetc". Once Jenson had passed Alonso both of them were reeling in Lewis like nobody's business. That was until Lewis banged in his personal best as a response which put a halt to Jensons charge. The team came on the radio to Lewis "Obviously you've got the pace, look after the tyres". Coded message? "Slow down, Jenson is doing the same" I reckon. Jenson maintained the gap after that, obviously there was another message to him telling him to take it easy as he isn't able to catch Lewis anyway.

Cool so that means you would be a Schumacher supporter if he was in the McLaren right or dominating in the Brawn/Merc like Button did last year :hehe: .

Blinkered Fanboy; See The Ram

Judging from his writing style and the content therein, I'm pretty sure he is Lewis' little brother.

I have my own ideas why this thread has gone on for 38 pages so far...

Jenson and Lewis are extremely talented drivers. Their wity, possess great overtaking skills, and where one driver lacks, the other brings something else to the table.

In my eyes I will call it like this...Jenson Button is the more experienced driver, and knows what it feels like to be behind the wheels of a terrible car (that Honda was GOD awful). Not just for a season, but for a few years. Hamilton had a very bad car for most of last season, but showed he wouldn't give up, and eventually McLaren got a little better...but Kovalinen proved to be a boy in a world dominated by men

This season more than any in recent memory, requires teams to have TWO DRIVERS CAPABLE OF BEING A #1 driver. Renault doesn't have that just yet, but ATT Williams has a GP2 champ and a great veteran driver. Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull: well no comment take their 8 drivers and you're in the money anytime

But...after going through countless arguments about the better driver between Hamilton and Button...all I can do is go with my gut and say...maybe its just who you like.

Lewis is very talented and a winner on every level of racing, and when it is all said and done he will go down as one of the best ever because he has hit the ground running.
Jenson has a lot of patience, and since he's tasted so much defeat...he calculates everything and never takes anything for granted just because he already won a championship. Jenson might repeat, he might not. However, he's really pleased me this year and 2010 proves that its not all about the car, its about Jenson as well.

I'm 24 years old I'll be 25 in November. Lewis is my age so of course he's my favorite over Jenson, and I think he's a better overtaker. Also, I've followed Hamilton's career and have witnessed him win in amazing fashion on multiple occassions. But I will not say he is better...simply because on everything Lewis struggles in, Jenson makes up for it with his experience and racing feel. Not only that, after you've been through so much struggling you're not just going to give up your winning ways over night.

Lewis needs Jenson just as much or maybe more than Jenson needs Lewis. I was always taught to have respect for my elders and I'm sure Hamilton knows that the only way he can improve as a driver, is to take pointers from guys who have seen pretty much everything...The highs and the lows...the expectations...you name it.

Same can be said for MSC and Rosberg. Just because Michael knows how great of a champion he is, it doesn't mean he's going to treat Nico Rosberg like crap. He knows that teammates have to stick together in today's F1 and the closer drivers are the better feedback the team gets

In all reality the only reason this thread has achieved 38 pages is because about 90% of the members here are Lewis fanboys  not that there is anything wrong with that :D .

That is the most rediculous reason I have heard in along time but too each their own.

The guy means he can relate to lewis. There are many reasons why people choose a driver. Ive mentioned before, I dont choose mine, they choose me :) .
Damon, Juan, lewis. All different.

Hey Tex...ridiculous

*to each their own not TOO; but thats not the only reason I've been following Lewis. His capabilities are right up there with the best in the business, and that's saying something when you're in your twenties. Same with Vettel, Rosberg, and the rest of the younger drivers in the field. While a lot of guys my age are out partying and getting wasted, I'm studying and working. I respect every F1 driver because they all had to be young and battle against veterans in a tough super competitive sport. Typically I root for young drivers, but on some occassions I don't. I prefer Webber > Vettel. Kubica > Petrov. De La Rosa is better than Kobayashi in my eyes but at the end of the day, who am
I to judge? Every one of these drivers are highly skilled, however not every driver is a great one and we all can agree. Hamilton will definitely go down as a great...Jenson too as long as he keeps up this pace
