I watched the race but i was half asleep(not because it was boring!) so i couldnt recognize many things. What happened to Red Bulls, how Hamilton passed the others, why Button wasnt the winner? And some other things. Can someone tell me?

What looked like a good strategy for Red Bull just didn't work out. They didn't manage to get ahead at the start. By the time that the soft tyre brigade pitted, the Red Bull's hard tyres were already losing performance, and the soft tyre brigade were faster on their new hards (relative). Hence Red Bull never got the advantage that many were expecting.

Button didn't win because Hamilton was slightly faster all weekend, and could still match Button's times at the end when Button had tyres in better condition (visually at least).

Hamilton was on pole and never really lost that advantage. So he didn't pass anyone. He just maintained his position through pitstops. When he passed Webber when Webber's tyres were worn out, Hamilton was already net ahead because Webber had to stop again, and Hamilton didn't.

Edit: Oh yes, Hamilton did pass Alonso. Alonso passed Hamilton in the pits, Hamilton passed Alonso in a later pitstop when Alonso was held up by traffic. That's also how Button got past Alonso, when Alonso was again screwed by a backmarker.

There was a bit were they were showing everybody go round the big corner before the straight to show their tyre wear, I thought Buttons tyres looked as bad as everybody elses, Martin Brundle said they looked marginally better but I thought they looked pretty bad, I think Lewis has learned a trick or 2 and was looking after his as well.

Yes, he did. Alonso pitted behind Hambone at the end of lap 7 but he beat Lewis back on to the track. They raced wheel-to-wheel down pit lane but Fernando had the inside line, forcing Hamilton to relent. Alonso led the pair until lap 15, by which time they both had caught up to the on-track leader who, at that moment, was Buemi (a distinction he held for about one lap). Alonso struggled to pass Buemi until the F-duct proved its worth and Hamilton passed Alonso down the Casino straight. At that same instant, Buemi pitted, giving Hambone the race lead.

Button took second when Alonso got caught out behind Chandok on lap 56 and the F-duct passed them both.

Webber was fast but he was relegated from P1 to P7 for the start because of a parc ferme gearbag change. By lap 8, he'd recovered to P3. But his greater problem was that RBR were ousmarted in tyre management by both Ferrari and McLaren. He was leading as late as lap 49 when he pitted for tyres. The McLarens and Ferrari managed to make the checquered on the tires they were on at that moment, and Webber never made up from the pit stop.

Vettel was fast as well but had the same tyre straggity problems as his teammate. Plus, about lap 49, Vettel inquired to his engineer over the radio why he was slowing. The engineer replied, "We are managing an issue." What they didn't want to say on the radio was that Vettel was coming on the same gearbox problem as Webber had had in Q3. He was ordered to shortshift and coddle the gearbox to race end.

Tyres were so short-lived and went away so fast, it was difficult to tell who was fast, who was slow, and who was slow because their tyres had gone off. Nonetheless, my impression was that McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull now are neck-and-neck. But Ferrari definitely are back in the thick of things.

Fred, serious question here... why do you call him Hambone?

I can respect anyone liking or not liking a driver or a sports figure in general or anyone else... politician, whatever. But unless you have absolutely no respect for a person or just want to go out of your way to demean someone, I don't see the point in calling anyone a sophomoric name. I ask because I notice that in every single post you make you go out of your way to use Hambone.

Because that's how he's often referred to in the British motoring press. The Spanish also use the nickname.

I think it started when Hamilton was penalized in 2008 for allegedly advancing position over Raikonnen while cutting the chicane at Spa. The incident prompted the FIA to issue a clarification on the chicane cutting rule, which was dubbed "the Hambone Rule."

It puzzles me that you should attach some malevolence to it.

Hamilton took the best care of his tyres in a race that's that damages tyres the most and so he won. After the race had finished the name of the track was changed to Circuit du Lewis Hamilton.

To me it comes off that way, and I was curious since I've heard no one else use it.

why Button wasnt the winner?

Button wasn't the winner because he was Jenson Button rather than Lewis Hamilton. Him winning wouldn't have been realistic unless either Hamilton had suffered a wreck or a weather change resulted in tire (tyre) changes that worked out in Button's favor (like the teams expecting hard rain and changing to full wets but Button staying out on slicks and the weather not getting all that wet). It's not like Button was going to simply outrace his teammate.
