He's higher in the championship then Massa isn't he?

Yes he is at the moment, three places higher. Its moved around, at one point Massa was leading the championship

And thats including an engine blowout, I can't remember any major reliability problems Massa's had (although I have a bad memory).

My point being, Alonso has made mistakes, but has still done pretty well, and is currently doing better than Massa.

Also, I'm not sure how much infulence Alonso would've had over this decision, if Massa's team mate was someone else, would we be suspicious of Ferrari's decision?

Alonso would be sh!tting himself if it was Kubica(the only driver mentioned when lewis entered F1 as being his strogest opposition)

I have a bad memory too and canrt remember massas car failures if any-I know his problems stem form tyres.

Alonso has done welliish despite mistakes. i guess i brought it up because he's always quoted as Mr. Consistency(well ain't) While other drivers get ridiculed for mistakes made in rookie years.

He could also be going very consistent... and getting Massa's results. instead, he's been notoriously pushing the envelope and getting podiums in a car that if it werent for his results, would be a midfield stamp. Not to justify those mistakes; but at least the others havent been so clean either, so the championship stays open...

Yes credit for pushing. But some drivers can push an inferior car without so many mistakes.

 gotta clean up his act. So far all the mistakes have been covered by others' misfortunes, which i doubt will continue to be affordable, now that the Mclaren guys are in the zone.

Indeed, last year Alonso wrung the hell out of that "dog of a" Renault and was still pretty consistent.

At anyrate, I would've liked Kubcia in the seat instead of Massa I think, although Ferrari's decision isn't that unusual.

Perspective; wonderful thing isn't it? I thought that Alonso really stopped trying after half way through the season, probably after signing for Ferrari!

Wasn't Alonso almost running on fumes for the quali lap?

He had less fuel than the others, true, but enough to make a decent go of the strategy rather than some completely and utterly absurd glory effort.
