Could be they know Turkey is Massa's best circuit and they don't want to worry him.

His contacts up so until that time when he signs a new contract anything can happen.

i imagine however the big 4 will keep the same 8 drivers.

Interesting... perhaps Ferrari doesnt want to worry Massa and/or destabilize the team. But yes, his contract is up so anything can happen; especially and unfortunately if he continues to struggle.

As I said earlier, its the tyre issue causing him to struggle.

I find it hard to believe Felipe is getting the sort of "Summit" treatment from Alonso and from the team itself, as some of you guys are claiming (ahem Racechick et al)... he obviously want to stay at Ferrari, which he wouldnt if he was getting such shady/conspiracy treatment.

'ahem Racechick' did not say the team were giving massa any treatment, she said Alonso called a summit meeting with the powers that be because they wouldnt make massa move over. Good on the team I say. I have no evidence to say the team have acted unfairly and I dont believe they have. Only that Alonso would have liked them too...agen.

Yes, its the tires. But regardless of the reasons, when you have a driver struggling badly and with a contract expiring. Ando on the other hand several other drivers dominating races in a row or placing their midfield car in the front row... talks are going to happen.

Ahem... Racechick implied that Fernando called on an evil meeting because Ferrari wouldnt give the order to allow him by.
but there's no way Racechick could have known what he meeting was exactly about. Could it be the meeeting was for clarifying how is the racing going to be? There would be no problem at all if both the drivers and the team came out of that meeting knowing what is going on inside the team and that they will both be allowed to race fairly.

In other words, if the team gave no privilege to Alonso on that day... we can assume Ferrari is also not giving Fernando any privileges while Massa struggles.... Therefore, they are racing FAIRLY. It doesnt matter what Alonso likes the team to do for him... what meetings he calls upon... how he behaves... etc. Because they are racing fairly. Get it?

A link or source to the said 'summit meeting' could put this to bed.

Even if such a meeting would have taken place, says nothing about what went on. So assuming it was Alonso calling it to COMPLAIN is just a guess... he could have called it to mention Massa had some strange smell coming out his exhaust :)

Yes I get it. Ive never said differently. my point was the arrogance of calling the meeting and asking for priveledges..agen. if you're so good race the car and win and stop asking for favours. It's the same beef i had with michael.

Its the lead article in autosport, analysing the drivers in the frame for the ferrari drive. its a long article. ive tried to copy the online version but cant. ive downloaded the pdf(the whole magazine!!) but still cant copy it. The main pont of the article isnt the summit meeting, that was just mentioned in it. if any computer whizzes know how I can get the link on or copy the article..please tell me

Correct me if I'm wrong but, isn't Nicolas Todt a co-owner in ART which is vying for a place on 2011 F1 grid. Does anybody else see a conflict of interest with Todt still being Massa manager or does ART intend to sign him when daddy awards him the 13th grid slot.

But the problem with your point is that you dont know what the meeting was about and what were the reasons and approach to it. You're assuming thre was arrogance from Alonso's part and that the meeting was to ask for favours when we dont know.

There's conflict of interests all over F1........

The meeting was about Massa not being intsructed to move over. I cant post the link or copy the text, here's the relevant part:-

"There's a certain tension with Alonso-but that's going to be the case with whoever he is alongside. As long as it is managed to reasonable levels that won't be a deal breaker. If Massa can become the force he was in the past three seasons and at least run on a par with with Alonso, ferrari has no reason to switch.
But what if massa doesn' want to stay? What if it's increasingly clear that
Alonso has taken charge here andhe's unwilling to go alongwith that? Alonso called a summit meeting with the team after the Australian GP, where he was denied a chance of victory by the team being unwilling to ask Masa to move aside for him.He has a very good point, but his calling of the meeting was also illustrative of the balance of power. For massa to have done that in the same circumstances would be almost unthinkable. It's as if Massa, to Ferrari, will forever be the young kid the team brought into F1.He's never fought his corner to change that, he values friendships and relationships too much to do that." .......
part of an article by mark Hughes looking at the pros and cons of Kubica, Webber and Massa. Obviously its out of context, its a very big article. Of course I dont know what was said in the meeting, I didnt claim that. But its pretty clear there was one and why there was one.

This is one of the reasons I dislike Alonso as a person; if he is such a great driver; why didn't he simply overtake Massa? If I were Massa I would want out of that situation, he played second fiddle to Schumacher, then Raikkonen and now Alonso. As far as I am concerned; they were racing for position in the second race of the season, no reason for Massa to pull over and let Alonso through. Can Alonso not compete on an even footing with his team mate; does he need preferential treatment?

My thoughts entirely.

I read this article too and I think that too much has been already made of it. Mark Hughes was, for one, demonstrating how much Alonso is now embedded into Ferrari. Great drivers mould teams around them and often have many of its top dogs singing off the shame hymn sheet.

Putting the topic of the meeting to one side and it is clear to see that this is nothing new in Formula One. I can name a number of instances where teams centered their entire programs around one driver. Some of these drivers are often considered as "all time greats".

The face that Ferrari did not simply order for the call to pull over says enough about the team. Although they are very much behind Alonso, they haven't quite yet reverted back to the Schumacher-era. May that happen? Well If Massa stays he will be de facto number 2 (especially at the start). Of course all can change with the new rubber etc etc, but it is quite clear to see that by then the Spaniard will have become well entwined in the workings of the Italian team.

Massa agrees to new Ferrari deal.

09/06/2010

Ferrari has announced that it has extended its contract with Felipe Massa, who will now drive for the team until the end of the 2012 season.

The Brazilian has been with the Maranello outfit since 2001. To date, he has competed in 69 Grands Prix for the team: he has taken eleven wins, 30 podiums, 51 points finishes, fifteen pole positions and twelve fastest race laps, scoring a total of 360 championship points.

"I am happy to be given the opportunity to drive for Ferrari for a further two seasons," said Massa. "Throughout my entire Formula 1 career, I have always raced with an engine made in Maranello and it is a matter of pride for me to be able to continue working with a team that I regard as a second family."

"Felipe has been part of Ferrari for almost a decade and together with us, he has grown as a driver and as a man, going through some very difficult times as well as giving us moments of great happiness," added Stefano Domenicali. "We wanted to show proof of stability for the future, believing in the worth of a driver pairing that is without equal in terms of talent, speed and its ability to work together for the good of the team."

So another two years of supporting Alonso then... guess Massa was trained by Schumacher to be a follower, not a leader... :banghead:

Why should he leave one of the two best teams in F1? Even Hamilton and Alonso (before his hiring) said driving for the scuderia is the ultimate dream for most F1 drivers? Also who says he is #2 too Alonso? Can't we just be happy Massa is not thrown to the curb and relegated to the sidelines in a subpar team?
