I read this on the BBC website earlier today and I am not surprised; Microsoft have stood still while Apple have innovated. But that said I still would not buy an Apple product; after two iPods died within the guarantee period; it really doesn't make me want to spend out more money on Apple products. The problem with Apple computers is the cost; $2000+ for a MacBook pro when you can get an equivalent powered Windows based computer for less than half of that. Apple are surviving on iPods, iPhones and iPads.

You're still running windows though on a platform that's not even made by Microsoft! The Mac OSX is superb just have to look at windows 7 to see all the ideas they've copied! And I wouldn't say Apple is surviving on iPods,iPhones alone i'd say 90% of the graphic design multimedia industry run Macs and it seems everywhere you look these days someones got a MacBook with them!

Macs these days are basically PC boxes with OS X on it; just install Windows on the same machine and it'll work fine; or install OS X on a standard desktop PC, it will work fine; Macs run on the same Intel hardware as Windows machines. Yes Microsoft have blatantly copied certain features of Mac OS X but by the same token Mac OSes have equally copied ideas from Windows over the years, that's the nature of the business. You may see a lot of MacBooks around but I haven't seen one (outside of a store) since I arrived here in the US. But loads of iPads, pods and phones, yes a lot of graphic design houses use Macs as do a lot of sound recording studios but that only accounts for a tiny percentage of the market, if it weren't for the handheld mediums that Apple are knocking out; they would be nowhere near close to the profitability of Microsoft.

Thing is the hardware and OS all come from the one factory, The OS is designed around their own hardware, unlike PCs which have a multitude of hardware makes! Also I thought it was impossible to install OSX on a PC? I looked into doing it researched and found even though it runs an intel chip Apples still done something so it only runs on their hardware.
but maybe it's your states demographic that's not apple mad? I'm sure it's different in NY or California! Even in lil ole Adelaide walk into most cafes coffee shops etc in the city there's a he'll of a lot of mac users! Microsoft has a larger share of the computing market due to the price and the relative stupidity of most home computing users! :P

It's now America's second most valuable company behind Exxon Mobil. About a decade ago, most observers were playing the funeral song for Apple. Who would have thunk?!

It's always interesting how the value of a company has so little to do with the profitability of that company. Even though Microsoft completely out earns Apple, people buy stock on future potential not actual earnings. Not an ounce of common sense in that but then again the market is simply a sophisticated gambling with the casino owners making the real profit.

It's not that OS X will not run on any given chip set; it comes down to the lack of drivers that work with OS X. Think of it as driver incompatibility; remember when Windows Vista came out; and the lack of support for devices; it's basically the same thing with MacOS I would think. Unless of course OS X doesn't allow for third party drivers; meaning OS X will only work on Mac (Intel) hardware; which stops people buying a cheaper PC and installing OS X on that; forcing people who actually want OS X to buy the more expensive MacBook. World domination will not happen until Apple bring their prices in line with equivalent powered IBM compatibles.

For all Apple's good, I sure as hell wouldn't have wanted to be one of the losers sitting outside the Apple store, throughout the night, awaiting the release of the Ipad.

Think of the verbal masturbation that would have gone on that night...

Bet it would be the same group of people who queued for the release of the Ipod, the Ipod Nano, the Ipod Touch, The Iphone, the Harry Potter books...
