I don't get it.

I was under the impression that you have to use both sets of tires in the race? Did I miss his pit stop? There is no way that he pitted and ended up 7th, so I don't think I missed it (I went away for 5 mins once, it's possible, but unlikely).

So, while the "1 stop" is considered starting from the pits, he didn't use both sets of tires. Am I missing something? Or do you become exempt from the rule if you start from the pits (it sure seems that way).

Oh, and a great opportunistic move by MS!! Alonso fell asleep there at the end, could have had 6th, but I'm happy for MS and the extra 2 points.

In that case, that is very impressive, to have moved up that much even with making the same amount of stops as everyone else. I'm impressed. Then again, any of the top drivers would have done the same, providing a similar good strategy.

Rule 40.13 If the race ends whilst the safety car is deployed it will enter the pit lane at the end of the last lap and the cars will take the chequered flag as normal without overtaking.

Yup. And once he cleared the Lotuses and co. he got on with it in clear air, thus jumping several drivers when they pitted. I'm not sure everyone could have jumped that many cars though, probably only Kubica and the Red Bulls had the pace he seemed to have to be able to jump the Mercs.

Safty car was in.

But Alonsos stop was legit he was saved by the safty car really and some good overtakes.

Strategy was brilliant in my opinion. I was wondering why Alonso started on the soft's, and on the same strategy as everyone else. Starting from last you'd think they would need to do something different to jump cars. But taking the gamble and hoping for a safety car so they could pit early and run the race without stopping. Great stuff.

McLaren did the same with Lewis last year at Brazil. It meant he could run the whole race with the better tyre, meaning he could jump Vettel and Button who were also making their way through the feild and eventually reach 3rd place.

The idea was to try and pass as many cars as possible not caring about conserving the super-softs. Then pit at the 1st SC for the rest of the race. It changed slightly because SC was on the 1 lap, but the idea just took a small variant. I was surprised though to see he almost got past Lewis.
