Maybe it's the same reason people say they're flying into NYC when they're actually landing in Newark airport. My point was that it's all really seen as NYC because NYC overwhelms the identity of everything around it there especially when you're talking about a global even like an F1 race.
Why do they call it NYC GP if it is in neither NYC or the state of New York?
NYC extends 50 miles... Oops I mean 80 Kilometers in all directions from mid town Manhattan. I'm sort of exaggerating, but not really.
I'm well aware of the geography of NYC. I don't see the relevance of that to my question though.
