Di Resta has been very impressive in DTM from what I watched the last couple of years, and that's a very competitive series (plus a Ralf Schumacher shaped chicane ). I would think he'd be quite highly regarded in F1 circles.

Not too sure about the Lotus situation as I think it's probably a bit early to tell, though I do find it very interesting to see the almost polar opposite attitudes / outlooks between Heikki and Jarno! Heikki seems to be having the time of his life whereas every time the cameras have spotted Trulli he just looks like he wants to get in a fight.... again...

Hmmm they did good last season (force india)... so maybe that they are on a decent ground this yr is very pleasing/interesting, but the surprise came last yr for me.

The surprise package/drivers so far i think is Renault. Considering how crappy the car was last yr, and how they changed drivers and went through a tough off season...

I'm not saying Force India have not done a fantastic job... but i think Renault's been more surprising.

Maybe Trulli is upset that he can't have bigger Trulli train's while driving?

I agree. I expected them to start very very slowly this season, but they have come on leaps and bounds. The loss of James Key may affect them slightly, but we will wait and see?

Kubica is a class act and he will drive the team forward. There is so much left to introduce on the R30. There is no reason why they won't be moving forward in the near future.

Talking mid-field teams. Could you classify Sauber as one? They have really not performed?

I'll have to remember that term; 'Trulli Trains' - love it! It is very symptomatic of his driving isn't it - fast in qualifying then have a train of cars behind him in the race begging that aero wasn't so important in F1 just so that they can get past him!!

I like Trulli, I've always thought he's talented, and a good character for F1, but as you say, I think his motivation is so easily knocked, and it has a big effect on his driving!

Sauber I've been very disappointed in, especially so after all of the pre-season promise they showed at testing. I actually feel a little bit cheated, as it's clear now that they were only ever doing low-fuel runs to try to hoodwink sponsors into believing they were going to be competitive.

To be fair though, I think Peter Sauber (I almost typed Griffin there as I've got Family Guy on in the background!!) has had a monumental task there since he (re)took over the team. Even more so than the situation at Renault. I think they will improve, though perhaps not until later in the season a la Force India in 2009. (Do you like how I brought the discussion back full circle there? )

I'm not quite sure what you mean by stretching ahead? Do you mean that they're likely to open a big gap on Sauber? I suppose, but it's not (yet) a gap that can't be closed with a couple of decent results. That'll depend on which, if either can improve the quicker. Of course not all teams can be regular points scorers, it just depends which of these teams will be the one more likely to have a one off result, or be a regular to nibble the 9th and 10th places. Whilst Torro Rosso seem to be there or there about, I just have a gut feeling that their team in particular is always on the verge of implosion. I don't really have any evidence or anything for saying that, it just doesn't ever strike me as a settled team (for which I blame Franz Tost 100%!). I think Peter Sauber on the other hand knows how to build a decent team on a small budget, and in the long term their prospects are better than Torro Rosso. Just my opinion of course!

Force India have improved are doing solidly. Vijay said their targetting 5th place in the constructors but I can't see them out doing Renault.

I think we should give Antonio more time - his preformance in China was disappointing but not enough to give him the boot.

Force India are doing well, and so are both drivers. Sutil is fast, but prone to mistake, whilst Luzzi is consistent, picking up points. But neither driver is really the complete package. If your waiting for Sutil to be the full package, how long do you have to wait. 4 years? Di Reista would have been a good bet coming into F1. But mercedes haven't really managed him that well, after sending him to DTM. He's been out of single seaters for quite a while. Luckily though Force India are doing a good job giving him mileage on friday.

If Sutil gets his act together this year, it will depend on how Luzzi preforms throughout the year, and how Di Reista preforms during Fridays.
